Well, my former bachelor pad no longer resembles one. Everything now has "its place." From cleaning supplies to a warm and cuddly bedroom (with stuffed mishkas) :-) wow, great zupa each day! My daughter who's in town from Maui has been enjoying Lena's company while I'm at work. We did stop-by the local big box store (Meijer) and...ugh, not so thrilled, especially the clothes, shoes. Everything is great however! She'll be in her comfort zone later today when we make the 30 min trip to the Russian market and the small Russian church on Sunday morning. Next week: marriage license app and SSN. Then AOS. Happy times!

Are you saying Lena is not thrilled with the clothes and shoes? Or YOU are not thrilled that she discovered them?

When they start saying "Look! They are almost FREE!" you are in deep doo-doo. Worse yet is when they come home and announce that they saved "you" $400, at least, today!

And be thankful that you're not married to an Ecuatoriana, each of whom must own 57 purses, sigh man. Thank heaven for Goodwill and other resale emporia, si man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Ukrainians love purses also! Alla also hits the Goodwill stores. The ones here also have a lot of brand new clothes that are donated to them by other stores, last season items and such. She also loves garage sales and was kind of amazed by the whole concept of taking all your stuff out on the lawn and selling it. And she was amazed at how cheap it was. She cannot believe Americans buy all this stuff, never use it, or use it one or two times and then sell it for "almost free". She bought her ice skates, roller blades (she loves to "go for a ride on rollers") skis, some outstanding kitchen knives, etc. at garage sales. She even knows what neighborhoods to hit the good stuff.

Just sayin' that her first impression of clothes in the big box and those that women were wearing on the street were "not modern". You know, we know that RUB women dress well with or without food on the table. Gotta take her to Macy's and DSW pretty soon.

The different sense of style caused us to have several funny conversations. I found that "not modern" translated into conservative or boring. Good luck with the Macy's thing  That is a sure cure for the it-is-almost-free thought process. Vika loves JCPennys. Half the pain

Yep, JC Penney, Target maybe. She's not a clothes hound by any means. She even alters clothing to suit her body. Small gymnast type, 5' 0" She's actually quite frugal. Again, as she always tells me: "you are a lucky man." I concur!:innocent:

Mine doesn't usually dress on the table whether there's food or not. :P

Congratulations, glad all is going well!

Ah yes, the styles. I have heard all the same comments including "Is there a contest to see who can dress the most horribly?" Alla likes TJ Maxx and Marshalls, Macy's when there are closeout sales, she also likes the Eddie Bauer shop downtown because the clerks there have her phone number and when she finds things she likes she tells them to call her when they go on sale "for 50% off or more" and they DO! There are trwo big shops in Montreal she likes, one is "Ailes" which always has super deals on clothes but the place is like a madhouse of wmone rummaging through everything  They have comfortable "man chairs".
