Hello everyone,

I am an international student who has been on OPT for about three months now. I have just been offered a full time position at a company, but the problem is, during the interviews, I was never asked about my visa status, although I made sure to make it clear on various occasions that I was not from the US but from outside. Now that I have been offered the job, how do I go about informing them of the visa status and need of sponsorship to work past my legally allowed time of OPT.

Thanks for the help!

You just need to talk to the HR folks or the guy who interviewed you at the company that you will need a sponsorship and you will need H1 visa to work with them.

Its your responsibility to make sure they complete the right paper work so you can work. Worst case would happen is the day you join the company and start filling out the W4 form and provide the supporting document to show you can work legally in country HR would stop you from being hired and you would not be able to work.

If your employer is not willing to sponsor the H1 then you are wasting your time.
