I am in the May filers and have been anxiously awaiting biometrics (almost everyone in my group has had that done), so lo and behold I receive an e-mail that I am now in line for interview scheduling. Anyone else had that happen? Do I need to check whether my biometrics letter went astray (or wouldn't I also have received a biometrics e-mail alert)?

Have you had biometrics done with USCIS for any reason in the past year?

They wouldn't have put you in line for int. without the biometrics. Most likely they already have them.

Oh, okay, that makes sense, I had them done last June for lifting of conditional permanent residency. Phew. I was looking forward to going down to the office and picking up the study guide. Does that mean they will send me back the biometrics fee? :)

Refund from USCIS?

I don't know for sure, but I think it depends on the office you are going through. I had my biometrics done last August for lifting of conditions step, but I had to have them done again last week for my N400 application. I am going through the Cincinnati office.

Checking back, see the USCIS used the same 3/4 view photo they took at biometrics for my wifes' EDA and conditional green card, her ten year card switched to the DOS standards for passports with the full frontal view. Her biometrics for citizenship was just fingerprints, we had to provide two passport type photos.

That switched around 8-9 months ago to now they are also taking your photo for your certificate, even though they were doing this for EDA and green cards for 80 bucks, realized since they are now taking photos for your certificate, increased the fee by another five bucks, but did that a week after my stepdaughter had her photo taken, so we saved five bucks.

Read someplace where you have the option of either requesting your own photos or using the one taken at biometrics, talked to my stepdaughter about that, never was brought up at her interview, they used the photo of her taken at biometrics. But the N-400 instructions still tell you to provide those two passport photos.

Wifes' photo is attached with double side sticky tape, stepdaughter appears to be printed with an ink jet printer directly on the certificate. If you fooled around with a high quality ink jet printer, really note a difference in quality between using photographic as opposed to standard paper. Certificate is just standard paper, quality of your photo is poor. But what the heck, was accepted by all governmental agencies as valid.

Just pointing this out, at least with our service center and field office, taking photos at biometrics is mandatory now and a reason for not using your old fingerprint records, if they even keep them. But really not dealing with one standard USCIS, every field office has different policies, like same day oaths or not. But do know each field office prints out your certificate and determines whether you can be a US citizen or not.

Also noted whatever is shown on the USCIS processing website and really what happens is two really different things. Still says they received my wifes' N-400 some odd three years ago, then they completely forgot about her.
