Syria is known as a terrorist country. Questions would be raised as to why he was traveling there, especially since he almost has a visa to the US, who he met with, etc. Think of it in the post 9/11 paranoid US homeland security eyes, he has been approved for an immigrant visa to the US (pending AP) so now he can make connections with his terrorist cell leader, receive terrorist training, and become a sleeper terrorist in the US.

Not that I personally agree with this a a terrorist can be grown and trained anywhere, but this is the paranoid US thinking and Syria is known for terrorist activities and groups being prevalent there.

Thank you for saying what I was thinking. Unless it is a VERY important reason I wouldn't give them any reasons to lengthen your time in limbo or reason for dismissal. IMO that is.

From what I've read as well it seems to back the AP up some... as in they have to background check where you went and why etc...just one more thing to have to look into.... if you can wait ...just wait..

Guys,

I'm a U.A.E resident & currently in AP.

I'd like to travel to Syria and was wondering if would affect (delay) my AP?

What are your thoughts on this?

Yes it will delay and possibly for a long time. If they have your passport at the Embassy how are you going to get into Syria anyway?

They don't have my passport. They don't keep passports for those in AP.

I guess that depends on where you interview... in pakistan they dont usually keep the passport if put in AP they give it back but they kept my husbands passport and all males go thru ap in pakistan..... (ppl tell me that they keep it when they think ap will be relatively short but who knows for sure)

Aha,

I thought he is Syrian and wanted to visit his family for one more time before immigrate.

How they gonna know he went to Syria anyway? He already had his interview and he may take his mobile phone with him to receive the call after the AP completed.

If they havent' issued the visa yet and they are going thru background checks and if they havent been completed it would come up on another check and then may end up creating a need to do the checks all over again to get clearance... ill try to find the link of someone that i read about it happening to.

If he gets the passport and visa obviously it isnt a big deal... maybe they could wait until visa was issued and go right after the issuance before coming here. the visa is valid i think for 6 months... (sorry im not sure...we arent to that point yet of knowing how much time the visa is valid)

At least you can call DOS

They didn't even give me a case number.

I sent them an email asking them to give me my case number and update me and only got this

"your case is still pending. we will call you as soon as your case cleared" :crying:

anyway, I found this some where...

http://shenyang.usembassy-china.org.cn/ap-check.html#a1

And I'm just comparing others with me (by date) hoping to get a better idea

They updates daily.
