How long before SS number issued?

I'll be applying at our local SS Admin office. Any idea how long it will take to be issued a number? I have a job lined up but the employer wants SS number soon.

Hubby got his about 9 days after applying. Depending on the office you go to, your mileage my vary. Give it 14 days. :D Congrats on the job!

My fiance went on Monday and they said that he should receive the card in about two weeks, but he could come back a few days later to obtain the number (not the card) if he wished. We're in no rush so we're just waiting for the card to come :)

Emplouer should acceopt your green card for employment and you can show him paperwork that shows SS card applied for. They just need to have the SS number (unless you use green card Number) by the time they do quarterly tax and unemploment insurance. End of March, June, September and December these are due. Green card is ok for emplyment purposes.

Hi Tim and Erin,

i got my number the next day after applying for SSN. and the person we talked from SSN said,maximum of 2 weeks to get the card itself but usually in 5 days,we could receive it already. Thanks
