I guess the point here is: Do it alone if you can. We think that having an Attorney is the best bet for success. But, sometimes is just more costly and the result would be the same.

Agree, I think having an IA is beneficial if you have extenuating circumstances but I really would have been much better off doing it on my own if I only had known better. I was under the false sense of security that my lawyer was looking out for us - which she was only looking out for a check.

Thanks Mimimi but I been reading this site, Google, peoples experiences for awhile now and when I first started was very confused. AT FIRST. OMG... Now it is relatively simple. You qualify or you don't. I'm still going up hill in my thoughts. Visa in hand is the Goal. Which is our Goal for for K-1 Petitions. It's a Start..

I did not know the form name. Once I figured out which form to use, I did few readings and asked few questions & bingo!

Some consulates do ask for an I-864 for a K visa, but they are a small minority. I haven't heard of the embassy in Manila doing this.

The only reason your attorney would want to see the police certificate is if she wanted to see for herself whether your fiancee was inadmissible for some crime, but an emailed or faxed copy would suffice. There's no reason to send the original halfway around the world and back.

Your attorney is not helping you. I suggest you either take over your case and finish it alone, or find another attorney.

Actually, just in case, as a back-up, my attorney made me fill-out I-864 for embassy interview for K1 in addition to I134 and other information. She asked me to instruct my fiancee to give it to CO during interview ONLY if there is something unpredictable happens. This is a good addition to show stronger relationship.

Sounds like we had the same attorney. Mine would never give me straight answer and I had to correct him on a few things. When I would ask for advice he would refer me to the US embassy Cambodian website so I refered him to the unemployment line. I feel for any of his other clients I have gotten more answers (correct) off of VJ then from him. Daniel
