It is quite wonderful when a person, in an ad hominem act of condescension, betrays their own ignorance more greatly than the party they seek to patronise.

"Fallacious" refers specifically to an incidence of illogic in argumentative rhetoric; a criticism of one's reasoning rather than assertions. Its use as a high-falutin' synonym for "false" is pretentious and incorrect.
