Hey all,

My husband is the main sponsor but he doesn't meet the poverty guideline so I have a joint sponsor. My joint sponsor is now a US Citizen (thru naturalization). On form i-864 it asks:

-U.S. Citizen

-U.S. National(for joint sponsors only)

Does she check the latter?

Thanks All, want to make sure I get this right to avoid any RFE :-)

No. A US national is someone who is from a outlying possession of the United States, rather than a US state or territory. For example, someone born in American Samoa is a US national, but not a US citizen. Someone who naturalized is a US citizen.

It means that a US national cannot be a primary sponsor but can be joint sponsor.
