She will not get a drivers permit on expired i-94.

If your i-94 is expired you will have to wait until your AOS is complete and you have the GC.

Again as most said, this varies a lot from state to state, in Texas now you only get drivers lic until the validity date of your visa.

In my case I already had my drivers lic before I entered on CR1 and I need to change my address the new lic that was issued to me was only valid for 1 year since I did not have my GC yet and the passport stamp was only good for year.

I'm in California and I went to the dmv this morning and got a permit.

I used my Canadian passport and my I-94 as well as my ssn.

Thats all I needed and there was no hassle for me.

Though I don't see it listed on the TN DMV site, try bringing the NOA for the I-485. This essentially proves that your wife is in an authorized period of stay while the AOS is being processed. My husband got his DL in VA by showing the NOA. His license expires one year from the date on the NOA.

I'm the USC petitioner.

Talking of driving in the US, Is it just in South Carolina that have crazy drivers? I have never in my life seen so many accidents on the roads here. I have driven in the UK and other European countries, but here, some people are mad as a hatter. I'm surprised in some way that the driving tests are not far more stricter.

It's a little wonder that car insurance is sky high here.......Drive at your own risk in SC.

lol mate. i cant believe the state of some of the old people still driving. i swear i was alongside of some guy with parkinsons disease-he was v elderly, not grooving to any tunes-really shaking & twitching. seems to me the doctors dont want to report them to the dmv & lose their private patients?!

Thread moved from the AOS forum to the Working and Travelling During US Immigration forum as this is a more appropriate location to discuss Driver License requirements.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
