If you are an LPR (= greencard holder), it depends where you are from how long it will take to get your priority date current, but it is currently around four years for all countries.

There was no change in the law.

I saw your post in another thread from February. You indicated in that post that you thought it only took 6 months to 1 year for an LPR to bring their spouse to the US. Based on that post, I'm presuming you're an LPR.

What you apparently aren't aware of, in both this post and your post from February, is that the cutoff dates in most family preference categories has retrogressed substantially. This means the cutoff dates rolled back several years. While it may have only taken a year or so last year, it now takes considerably longer to get an F2A visa for a spouse. The current cutoff date for most countries is Aug, 2007 (July, 2007 for Mexico). An applicant needs a priority date which is BEFORE the cutoff date before they can apply for a visa.

This doesn't necessarily mean you'll be waiting four years. Just as cutoff dates sometimes retrogress, they also sometimes advance by more than 1 month with each new visa bulletin. If the cutoff dates advance at an accelerated pace then your wife's priority date might be current much sooner than four years. If the cutoff dates advance 1 month with each new visa bulletin then you're looking at four years of waiting. If they advance even slower, or retrogress again, then it might be even longer. It all depends on how many people apply for a visa when they're eligible.

Check the current visa bulletins here:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/bulletin/bulletin_1360.html

Check at least once a month. When the cutoff date for an F2A is after February, 2011, then you'll be able to finish the NVC process and your wife will be able to apply for a visa.

On the other hand, if you're eligible to become a US citizen, or will become eligible before your wife's priority date is current, then you might want to consider becoming a US citizen. Your petition would be upgraded to an IR1, and your wife's cutoff date would immediately become current.
