I was really tired and slept quite a while today, so now here I sit at 2:45 am!!!

Craig & I have our own separate interests like anyone else, but we usually sit down together in the evenings (with Corey too, of course!) and have supper and watch a few shows or a movie or something. We spend time together when I'm not at school, but we've been trying to think of some other low-cost options for activities to do together. What we came up with so far is cards....neither of us really ever learned how to play card games, (I know, I know!) and we thought it would be kinda fun, so I printed off instructions for various ones at school the other day. So, that's a plan so far. We could always take walks, things like that, but what are other interesting things you all do to have some 'couple time?'

Anyone? :) M.

edited to add: Ok, for a couple of you I 'know' out there....aside from the obvious! ;) M.

We're together and recently we've decided to cut back on spending and start trying more LOW cost options :)

1. Game nights are GREAT. We spent the money on some games..scrabble, stratego, uno, monopoly, trivial pursuit...and we invite couples over and all play :)

2. Pub Quiz. yes it's at a restaurant but technically you don't have to buy anything other than just drinks :) We'll go and just drink tea or soda all night. Prolly pizzes the waitress off - but oh well.

3. Minor league baseball games. $5 to get in - fun times.

4. Of course rent movies, or watch tv.

5. We go play soccer together every sunday and wednesday night. I played on a co-ed team and got him on it. We love that!

6. The zoo offers relaly cheap admission at certain times as well. We go there and just mess around.

7. Hiking outdoors - here in Florida it's not so much HIKING as walking on flat ground but we'll go walk by the river and have a picnic :)

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

In order of preference:

a) gorging ourselves watching boxed DVD sets of Monk (L) , Nip/Tuck  , Arrested Development  while snuggled up on the sofa

b ) driving round and round town with the dog in the back of the car with his head stuck out of the window, looking for wild animals (lots of deer and, once in a blue moon, a bear) and listening to NPR while drinking coffee.

c) going to movies

d) eating sushi

e) yoga classes

f) inviting friends round for dinner

g) going for walks

We're apart at the moment, but low cost options we've enjoyed include:

1) Renting a video game and trying to beat it.

2) Playing a 'hot seat' version of a computer game

3) Renting the first season of a TV show.

4) Board games.

Once he's here, and I mention this because you're a uni student also, we might take some classes like tennis or ballroom dancing through the gym, since it's pretty inexpensive for a whole semester with the student discount.

We enjoy dominoes and have another couple we invite over for dinner and dominoes - usually go to 1 or 2 in the morning! We will also go to Barnes and Noble, pick up some books to browse and sit in the little coffee shop area drinking coffee (not always a cheap option since we often come home with books:-)); we bought a year membership in Georgia State Parks so often head over to two that are close to us to hike, take photographs (we both love photography), or just to sit by the river reading together. We usually pack a picnic if we plan on being a while; we do gardening and yard work together; we generally go for a walk each evening around the neighbourhood and on weekends, we will often explore the houses in the subdivision that are still under construction deciding what we like and don't like about the designs. We also attend a course each week then afterwards go for something to eat with some of the other participants.

We play cards alot & watch movies or catch up on shows we've recorded.

Dave's firehall has a lounge so we usually go down there and watch TV and catch up with whoever's there. Last weekend we went bowling - $10 all you could bowl, which was great fun.

Also our various home improvement projects keep us busy. At the moment we're laying laminate floor throughout the whole house and painting everything!

We record a lot of stuff on our DVR to watch together -- usually we get in our pj's, get a pint of ice cream, snuggle and watch them.

Last weekend we went and played mini-golf....the Cheryl VS Jerry tournament has begun! (Cheryl 1 -- Jerry 0).

We also like to:

play cards with friends

cook meals together or go out

weed my lavendar garden

go for drives and take pictures

etc etc

We play a lot of board games (actually we're having a game night tonight, but we made sure most of the games we own can be played by two players). And we play miniature golf, which is really popular around here. We go for a lot of walks, though one of the most fun parts of that is to look at houses since we're planning to buy one this winter. We go to plays (check what amateur groups have stuff going on) and we go to B&N (since they're open late; most places around here aren't) for coffee and cheesecake (we don't have Cheesecake Factory here) to talk about the play afterwards. (Sometimes we go just to talk.) We also go to bookstores just to browse, go to PetSmart on weekends when they have adoption drives to play with the dogs and cats, and we signed up for an adult religious education class at my church (on the book Quantum Theology, about the relationship between religion and science).

We have no major league sports teams nearby (the nearest MLB team is 6 hours away in Phoenix and the nearest NFL team 8 hours away in Denver), so a lot of people here go to minor league baseball games and the local university's football and basketball games.

For the record, Mirorgate, in my high school Chess Club was extremely popular (even with the cool kids and jocks) and there was a waiting list to join the competition team. (Bowling team also had a period of coolness at the time. Kids are weird. Personally, I bowled but never joined the chess club.)

Thanks for the ideas, everyone! We do a lot of the same type of things you do, Cassie. Nothing, really...but together anyway. The cards should be fun, and I'm sure we'll find other things as we look, too. Sometimes we're just sitting around on a day like this, going "what should we do?" so thought I'd see what ya'all did! I like to scrapbook too...been working on a wedding one on and off (mostly off lately!) for over a year now... lol. I'm not as into it as a lot of people, but when I get time, I mess with it....it's fun! Craig was on a big chess run online for a while, but I've never learned to play,so maybe he can teach me. I know what you mean on the books Kathryn...we both LOVE to read,too..in fact...Craig & Corey are watching ManU right now, and I'm off to read a trash Nora Roberts for a while..heh. I like all sorts, and Craig usually goes for something much more substantial in his reading! lol..anyway, thanks for sharin! M.
