From my understanding on reading this.....one must be in possession of an Argentine identity card (Cedula de Identidad) issued by the Argentine Federal Police in order to obtain a police certificate through the Argentian Embassy.

Argentina

POLICE RECORDS

Available. If a person is physically present in the country, s/he must apply personally for a Police Record. The Argentine Federal Police issue a police record entitled "Certificado de Antecedentes". This document, which may be obtained only by bearers of Argentine passports, Cedulas, or DNIs (Documento National de Identidad, indicates whether a person has any previous convictions in Argentina. When a foreigner has applied for residence in Argentina, the Federal Police will, in certain cases, issue the certificate based on a request from the Argentine immigration authorities. In some cases, however, prior convictions can be expunged after 10 years have elapsed. The application for this document must be made in person to the Federal Police in Buenos Aires, and is available to any person over 18 years old who is physically present in Argentina, regardless of status. A fee is charged. Also acceptable is the "Certificado de Buena Conducta" which is available from all of the provinces of Argentina, except the provinces of Buenos Aires, Chubut, La Pampa, Misiones and Salta. These certificates must be applied for in person from the police office having jurisdiction over the place of residence. Argentine citizens and former residents abroad can apply for a police certificate through the nearest Argentine Consular office. They must be in possession of an Argentine identity card (Cedula de Identidad) issued by the Argentine Federal Police. (Processing takes up to six months). A passport may be issued to an individual at a consular post which would not indicate that there is no warrant for arrest, or a judge may have authorized the passport issuance even though there may be an outstanding warrant.

Wishing you all the best. I hope you find a resolution to this soon.

My fiancé is an Italian citizen born in Uruguay currently living in Barcelona, Spain. He visited the Uruguayan Consulate in BCN to request his police certificate and they advised him that they could not obtain it for him. However, they told him he could authorize someone in Montevideo to request it for him. He sent a notarized (by the Uruguayan Consulate) letter requesting his Police Certificate be issued and given to his cousin along with a clear and legible photocopy of his Cedula de Identidad. We’re waiting to see what happens. I’ll keep you posted.

As for the others... keep trying!!! Don't give up. Why not ask a trusted friend or relative to visit the local police precinct and ask what a citizen residing outside the country needs to do to obtain his police certificate. You won't lose anything by asking and might gain useful information.

Good luck!

Hey All,

Thank you all so much for your replies. It helps so much. Lorelle I read that passage the same as you did. I don't think he can obtain the AR pol cert unless he is physically present in the country. When you're present, ANY one can obtain one. This is the passage I'll reference should this become a problem.

Mqexr3000 that is a great idea. In fact we do have a friend in AR who is checking on this for us. Good luck with obtaining the pol cert and yes, keep us posted.

Mike, please don't worry, you can write me in Spanish or English, it doesn't matter. How are things going in Cuba?? I hope all is well for you and your fiancee. How about that medical exam fee of $400.00!! and the Blanca Tarjeta is $150.00 now!! I was in shock when I heard the costs. I sent the one time emigration western union of $1,000.00 to help cover costs. Of course you know that my fiance will only see about 80cents on the dollar. How long is it taking to get the medical?? Keep us posted.

Hi All,

My Cuban fiance picked up his passport this past week with no problems. The cost was about 65 CUC which equals 65 USD. This is a hugh cost to the average Cuban who most don't make this amount in 6 months.

We are in touch with an Argentine lawyer who is helping us obtain the Argentine police cert. The total cost was 350 USD. 1 USD equals 3 AR Pesos. This was quite an expensive undertaking. I'll update with results soon. When I searched for a lawyer in Argentina, I started with the US Embassy in Argentina website. Then, I searched www.Craigslist Buenos Aires.com
