They were good actors in the 70s and 80s. Everything since then has been between mediocre and awful. Heat was ok, but nowhere near the quality of acting in Raging Bull or the Godfather (1+2)

I respectfully disagree. In Righteous Kill, the only movie both of them acted

in together

Not quite (though it was as good as billed as such). Two more:

Michael Mann's 'Heat', a sort of revisionist cops-and-robbers character study, their principal scene a fairly loaded interchange in a diner; and 'Godfather pt. II', though one forgives the oversight for their comprehensive dearth of mutual screentime ;)

To each his own. I didn't care for "LIttle Fockers" and probably won't see the sequel.

De Niro recently has just elected to keep working, not worrying that this or that film

will be a classic. Whenever he appears he does a great job.

Pacino is a bit more discriminating when he chooses roles.

The last movies I saw with him in the cast were "Glengary GlenRoss",

"Scent Of A Woman", "Donnie Brasco", "Any Given Sunday",

"The Merchant of Venice", "A Righteous Kill" and "You Don't Know Jack."

He was good in the Godfather series but he was amazing in "Scarface."

tony_and_hannah_montana.jpg

In each of them he played very different characters. I would recommend

any of the above (with the possible exception of Glengary...). If I had

reservations about him being 100% convincing in Merchant, he

more than redeemed himself in "You Don't Know Jack" - that was

some incredible acting, him becoming Jack Kevorkian.

If I had a choice of not being able to see either one or the other,

I would not give up Pacino.

He was good in Scarface, but his acting over the last 20 years is an exercise in scenery chewing. Scent of a woman was shockingly bad and a case in point as was The Devils Advocate.

Not saying you have to agree; this is a subjective topic. All opinions are cool B-)

My Name is Khan a foreign film about an Indian Muslim who has asperger's. It's a great film with tragedy, laughter a love story just great. Anyone else heard of it or watched it? Available on Netflix,

UGH. I hated that movie, so heavy-handed, such melodrama. I rolled my eyes every five minutes.

At first I thought the Guy Ritchie film "SNATCH" presented pigs as eating human flesh as a novelty.

Little did I know that there was a Japanese film made in 1961 that

actually had the Yakuza feeding their victims to pigs.

Sorry Guy, Shohei Imamura beat you to the punch... unsure.gif

I just saw Pigs & Battleships last night, very entertaining as well as tasty devil.gif

What did you make of it? Am at present looking to explore a bit of Japanese gangster cinema.

Have Fukasaku's Battles Without Honor and Humanity saga as a jumping off point.

Have Fukasaku's Battles Without Honor and Humanity saga as a jumping off point.

This (Pigs & Battleships) is an excellent film which evokes some of the spirit of the French gangster film noir type,

but it has some uniquely Japanese threads of humor in it (like a man playing the tough guy

while his woman gives him a stiff brow-beating).

One of the main reasons I enjoyed it was that it was a completely Japanese production,

filmed after the post WWII occupation, totally from the point of view of the Japanese.

It portrayed Japanese men as being between a rock & a hard place, having to choose

between making an honest living in a factory for no money or becoming a gangster

and being able to afford to support a woman. Otherwise, the Yanks got all the best poontang.

The film was made in 1961 but portrayed the occupation which ended on April 28, 1952.

"The Stepford Wives" - the cast is all-star, but it's kind of a one-trick pony comedy.

Worth watching the DVD for the deleted scene of Bette Midler:

Otherwise, better off listening to Sara Palin's speeches on Youtube... headbonk.gif

The Rite with Anthony Hopkins. I thought it was amazing and would recommend it for sure!

We watched "The Merchant of Venice" with Al Pacino as Shylock this past weekend.

Watched that a few weeks back myself and some how I feel so sorry for Shylock. I think it's unfair for Portia to get involved eventhough I think the pound of flash is too much and I'm glad Shylock didnt do it but took everything from him? And Shylock daughter stole from him and she was portray to be a good person... really?
