I was responding to my wife's request for something romantic,

but in fact while both of these films delivered, they were actually

about women cheating on their husbands

Bridges of Madison County

Brick Lane - Bengalis in London

She and I liked both of them.

I loved Bridges of Madison County. Meryl and Clint are awesome.

I loved Bridges of Madison County. Meryl and Clint are awesome.

Clint did his usual excellent job, but Meryl blew me away with her "becoming" an Italian-American.

That's not my background but my neighborhood is heavily Italian

and my wife's boss is Italian.

You look at Clint and you say "that's Clint playing a Clint-type role."

You look at Meryl and you believe she is someone else.

What Meryl can't do convincingly pretty much doesn't exist.

I liked how Clint connected with her in the movie though. My all time favorite with him is Million Dollar Baby, I happen to be a Hilary Swank fan.

About Meryl, I agree with you 100%. She is really out of this world, it's a shame she hasn't won an Academy Award since the 80s especially because she's been nominated so many times. What is wrong with those people??? I still haven't seen Sophie's Choice (have you?) but I will soon.

Even though Bridges of Madison County is sorta slow, there is so much energy packed between the 2 of them, you can sense the passion and like you said Meryl did a hell of a job.

'Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes [The Wrath of God]'

Herzog's world is full of portent, foreboding, inevitability, as the charismatic, self-aggrandising enigma, Aguirre, leads his band of Spanish rebels to expiration or murder in his futile and rabidly ambitious quest to find and conquer El Dorado.

Really captivating stuff - a treatise on the sacrifice of enterprise, with that air of fable and myth characteristic of the likes of Bergman and Tarkovsky.

"Chasing Sound" - documentary on the life of LES PAUL rose.gifrose.gifrose.gifRIProse.gifrose.gifrose.gif

LP is amazing - I knew a bit about him as an artist and inventor before I saw it but this really blew me away.

A must for anyone in the music business or having a love of music.

Music would not be the same today if not for LP - not only for the guitar but for multi-track recording.

"Women In Love" => in response to request for more romantic flics

It didn't seem like a classic with the passage of time although the acting was OK.

It seemed more dated as a throwback to the 60's where we have gratuitous

footage of Glenda Jackson's "boobage" as well as Alan Bates' plumbing.

Not my cup of tea in terms of great acting or plot.

With Pacino you almost never go wrong; even if the movie sucks there will be great acting.

I also saw Merchant of Venice recently and although Pacino's performance can't be faulted, the part really calls for a great Jewish actor. I didn't see him becoming the

part as well as Meryl Streep did as an Italian immigrant in Bridges of Madison County.

Pacino hasn't been good in years, vastly overrated as an actor. De Niro too.

I respectfully disagree. In Righteous Kill, the only movie both of them acted

in together, the acting by the two as partners is just electrifying,

despite being in a movie that wasn't absolutely the best material around.

The reason for me seeing the above was kind of funny, as I had been

impressed by another film that John Leguizamo was in and I just wanted

to view another one where he was in the cast. The reason that this film

had a superb cast was obviously that Pacino and De Niro had signed on.

I would give Righteous Kill a thumbs up

while you're better off not seeing
