Hello everyone.....

Visa was approved on 4/16/11, and received by the NVC on the 25th. when I call them they tell me that it's going through additional processing, but how long does it take to go through additional process I asked. They say it could be anywhere from 1 to 4 weeks. I said are you kidding me......

Is this a normal process guys, and what does additional processing mean, what are they looking for now. It has been 24 days since my visa was approved and it's still in the USA, C'mon.......!!!!! will this all be done before the holidays!! :bonk:

this is normal ... also, your visa has not been approved, only your petition has been approved. You can check the processing times for your country through the timelines tab ... Our NOA2 was on 4/6/11 ... we are waiting for the physical package to arrive at the consulate ... (which in fact we know it has through the DHL trick) ... there is lots of info about all this if you search around on VJ.

One important thing to know is that you have not received an approval on a visa yet. You are still in the petition stage at the second level - NVC. Yes, it is normal for the NVC to do additional processing on any case which could include things like verifying that documents you provided are accurate - maybe a divorce decree, or some other random item. Hang in there, hopefully all is well and your case will be off to Ghana soon. We went through the K1 process prior to the cr1 and we were held up at the NVC for about 30 days in additional processing. Of course, no one at the NVC call center could tell us specifically why we were in ap. If you are confident in everything you provided, just relax - this too shall past.

Staying strong and patient in love and faith!

We went through something similar in 2009. My husband's paperwork was approved April 7th, 2009. NVC received it on April 9th, 2009. It did not leave the NVC till May 14th, 2009...over a month! Everyone else's was not taking more than a week, so I was concerned. I called and they said it was under additional processing...same as you! From what I understand, even though they will not tell you this... You have been picked for a background check...it's quite random, but it does require further waiting than everyone else. Not to worry....as long as there is no criminal record, you will be fine.

Thanks, this is crazy though! How long do you think it will take them to find out that I've never been charged with any criminal or civil offenes, and that I work for the Criminal Justice System. Unbeleiveable...... :bonk:

Well, it took them over a month for my husband and if you ask them for a time frame...they tell you that they can't provide you with that information.

Best of Luck to you! I know how hard the waiting can be...but at least you'll be together soon and you have the rest of your lives ahead of you.

it should be out soon

it took us about 1 month but once u hit 3 weeks ask to speak to a supervisor because we were waiting and it turns out they put our petition in the wrong filing room so just stay on top of things and it will be over soon.

Thanks you're right, I called everyday to check on it. I called early this afternoon, and a lady told me that it was still being process, but I call back around 9:30pm and another lady told me that it left for the Ghana Embassy later in the day. It's on its way to Ghana as of today, so you do need to really stay on them.

Thanks you everyone for your input.

Make sure you stay on them to send that NOA2. You'll need it to adjust status down the road.
