Gay or lesbian conversation would not be an issue concerning VJ unless it was purely a preference or political discussion since it holds no current standing in the marriage type visas. And I second the eeeeeewwww on the potential possibility of scams to marry someone in order to reunite them with their gay or lesbian lover.

Meauxna,..

How the hell are you? How is the painting going?

!Absolute bloody disaster!

The trim colors did not work as planned. I just hear the DAH returning with a (fingers crossed) new solution. Did you hear? 'Vellum' is the new 'Green Black'. I almost have the will to try again. :P

Once again, you have perhaps opened my eyes to something I initially agreed with, but didn't really know why?

What does love have to do with it,??....GOOD POINT, and something, in this particular topic, I hadnt thought about, when it comes to relationships.

Folinskyinla has posted some interesting stories on the topic at avumb; it's normally a shake up for those of us with a "traditional" relationship. But keep your eyes open enough, even around here, and you can see that different couples do things a LOT differently than you do. :star:

Ain't the world a lovely place?!

meauxna,

You mean INS permitted marriage-based immigration to legally-married same-sex couples prior to 1996?

Yodrak

,,,

AND for the further interested, the federal law that prohibits immigration benefits based on a (legal) same sex marriage is called DOMA: the Defense of Marriage Act.

there was that issue of polyamory a year or two ago..... troll perhaps, but was still brought up as an issue

:star:

I don't think that was a troll at all. And that person was marrying his/her SO who was a different gender, according to USCIS rules for the type of visa they were on. That discussion was mostly about whether or not it would be considered a crime of moral turpitude to knowingly immigrate with the polyamory as a factor in the marriage.

Not exactly the same as homosexual marriage, but along the lines of "outside the norm" for the US.

(And wow, you have a great memory! I'd forgotten all about that one! )

hehe - I didnt think they were a troll really, but because I didnt happen to see any updates (missed them i am sure) I figured its possibly a fly-by-night poster. Good to hear they are doing well. It was certainly an eye-opener!

Re the troll: I didn't really think you thought that either. (Your turn! hehe)

The last I heard they were. It's been awhile since they were here but then it's probably a good sign that they've been able to escape VJ.

Although I don't know what that means for us...

No, I don't mean that at all. I'm 99.999% certain that you did not conclude that from what I wrote. DOMA is the current law barring immigration benefits.

Petitioning Procedures: Bringing a Spouse (Husband or Wife) to Live in the United States

Gay Marriages

Can a gay marriage (even in a state where these are legal) be the basis for a Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative, for purposes of immigration? For the purposes of immigration, a marriage’s validity is a question of Federal law, not of State law. In 1996, Congress clarified the Federal law concerning recognition of marriage by enacting the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), Pub. L. No. 104-199, 110 Stat. 2419 (1996). The DOMA contains a statutory definition of "marriage," and of the related term, "spouse." Pursuant to the DOMA, in order for a relationship to qualify as a marriage for purposes of Federal law, one partner must be a man, and the other must be a woman. This definition applies to the construction of any Act of Congress and to any Federal regulation. USCIS must, therefore, administer the Immigration and Nationality Act in light of the DOMA, and cannot recognize the validity of any same sex marriage.

if half of the US same sex couple was Canadian, they might stop by here for some reason. Canada allows same sex conjugal sponsorship and same sex marriage. The same sex marriage is just in the past couple of years, but the same sex conjugal partner sponsorship has been allowed for quite a while.

As do a few other countries. I wish the US government would get its head out of its ### and do the same :P

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

And you know how well that'll fly in the face of the ultra conservative and religious right who would like us all back in the 1950's.... ;)

I've been remiss in my Cdn news too...I wonder it Steven Harper's made any big Conservative changes in Canada yet?

For some strange reason, I was sitting here, reading the forums, doing what I do, when a  (thought) struck me.

Gays or Lesbians!!

There are no gays or lesbians on VJ.

They're over at www.homojourney.com. LOL

Googling 'homojourney' returned 0 results!

I think it's dead, Jim.
