For those of you that know so much about wars, strategy’s, tactics, etc. Wars are not won in a year or two years, you can not put a timeline on wars because nothing is constant and especially in this new type of wars where your enemy does not wear a uniform and does not stand in front of you and fights.

Thank you for making the point that your boss either don't know what he's talking about or blatantly lied to the American public. Remember, he said:

5 months max. That's the specific timeframe he went on record with. He assured the American public of that limited timeframe. How could he do that if it is, as you say, impossible to determine such beforehand? He either doesn't know what you know or he lied. Which would it be?

1. If he would go you think Bush is going to replace him with Al Gore or Hillary? LOL

2. No matter who would replace him, Bush is still the President and has the finally say on things.

3. Wolfawitz is as much to blame as Rumsfeld about Iraq and he was made the head of the World Bank, so he should be on the street too if you are looking for people to blame.

4. Plus every member of Congress that voted to give Bush the OK to Invade should be gone too.

Not to mention when your Defence Secretary sends fewer men with missing or faulty equipment.

There are many more parameters that just sending men and equipment. I am sure if we could have we would have sent one million troops but this is not possible because of logistics, money, opinion of the civilians, the politicians saying we are not taking care of business at home or other parts of the world, other government that we have special treaty’s, etc. There are too many things for me to list them all.

I seem to remember Rumsfeld getting some stick from some of his generals who are on public record stating that he took fewer men than they considered was necessary to do the job. He is after all the boss, so he doesn't have to listen to subordinates - but clearly, when you are being ambushed by guerila groups in towns that were empty when you drove through them the previous day, (because you didn't have the manpower to secure them) I think I'd be asking what the problem is.
