I-130 and I-129F from NOA1 to NOA2 has the same posted processing time by USCIS, 5 months. After NOA2, I-130 goes to the National Visa Center (NVC) for additional processing. I-129F goes to the Embassy or Consulate via the NVC. NVC is a mail stop for I-129F.

I129F rarely goes onto the consulate these days, NVC will close the I129F and keep you on the Cr-1 path

Don't even bother with the I129F, it doesn't yeild a visa

This is a little confusing. I presume you mean that this is the case for filing an I-129F for a K-3 visa?

I think Ryan H was referring to K-1 visas.

The OP listed IR1/Cr1 as his visa, so I assumed he was asking about I-130/I-129F combination. Perhaps the OP needs to clarify as to which path he is on and whether he is married or not

i dont know why everyone here on visajourney keep on saying that K3 is dead, mine was recently forwarded to embassy(both i-130 and i129f approved at same time) and i am following the path of k3. Beyond the AOS(which you are going to get anyway) and saving about $700.00, i do not see any advantage of IR1-CR1 visa. K3 saves the time spent on NVC(atleast 40 to 50 days)and i guess 40 to 50 days does matter for the people who are praying every moment to be with each other.

People on VJ keep saying the K3 is dead because stated NVC policy is to administratively close an I-129F that was filed in conjunction with an I-130 if the I-130 has been approved and received by the NVC.

Your K3 going forward was A) a fluke, the fluke being the NVC didn't follow their own stated procedure in your case

or

B) the NVC happened to receive the I-129F from USCIS before receiving the approved I-130 from USCIS and thus processed the K3.

Regardless of the reason, your instance is an anomaly, not the norm.

No Adjustment of Status with the cr-1 visa, so really with the K-3, it is almost a thousand dollars more expensive
