They review the I-130 and the I-485 together. Furthermore, there is an "other names used" space on the two G-325As you will be sending (also one for your husband, so three total). Apply for all things in you MARRIED name. You will be sending along your marriage certificate, and USCIS accepts this as a valid name-change document. They are smart enough to know how to handle a name change... it happens all the time. If you apply in your maiden name, then you will have to pay monies to get the name changed on it. Might as well avoid paying extra and apply in married name now.

oki doki:) all clear now! thank u so much, and thanks to everybody who replied to my post !u guys are great! :star:

one more detail...in the "other names used" space do I just put my last name(at birth) or do I need to put my whole name- first middle and last??

thanks

When we filed for AOS for my ex wife we put the name she wanted on here green card (my last name) on ALL the forms and sent in copy of marriage certificate and were asked for other names used her maiden name we had no problems. Otherwise you do have to pay for another green card after you get it to change your name. SS will issue you a new card just take your marriage cert and new green card. In the mean time carry the letter stating the received your request for AOS with you if you happen to be stopped by police for anything and you will be fine...

Since she had no middle name we used her first name and maiden name where it asked for other names

When I filed all of my paperwork, I put it in my married name, even though I had nothing but our marriage certificate. My goal was to change my name and they didn't bat an eye at it.

hi guys! i think my question belongs here... i know i made a mistake.. (by reading your answers here..i know i did -_-) but it was too late as my

AOS paperworks are in the initial review already xD

But anyway, what I'm bothered about is.. I'm about to get my EAD probably next week since it was just ordered this week.. And everything I filed is in my maiden name.. I thought I should file first in my maiden name since I don't have any proper ID to show if my file's in the married name..What I'm bothered about is, what if i get my EAD already and apply for SSN, can i ask them to change my last name and just bring with me my marriage cert.? or should i wait for my conditional green card, get it changed (from maiden name to married name) and have my SSN name changed? because i have my RN license changed already in my married name.. and i'm gonna have to transfer it to another state (MI to CT) will my name there in my license affect anything if that's the only license in my married name?

You can bring in your marriage cert to the SS office and get your SS card in married name.

You can keep the GC in your maiden name, and change it when you get to ROC stage. You could also try to get your GC changed to married name BEFORE it gets made... so mention to the IO when you have your interview that you want your name to be in the married name - that might work but might not.

Good luck.

I am also thinking of asking the IO to make it to my married name..but i don't know if someone from here ever did it..or maybe it depends to the IO (because some maybe in the best mood..some are just..neutral, no emotions XD) but your answer definitely made me feel so much better. :) i think the important thing is the SS, because of the taxations, records, etc... so can i at least make my driver's license (if i'm going to get one in the near future) in my married name, yeah? just bring in the marriage cert? :D

i will try the asking the IO thing..he/she can just jot it down in front of the file to the correct name..hopefully ^_^

thanks harpa! :D

I have seen people successfully ask the IO to change the name, but I have also seen where they have asked and somehow it never happened. Worth a shot though! Good luck!

probably because filing I90 (was it?! o.O) will cost another $300++ another money in their fund..i guess?

or maybe the IO just forgot... but as what you've said, i can leave it in my maiden name until i ROC..

or maybe months later, i will just have it changed..the important thing is.. (and hopefully!) i have green card.. :D
