So if you can remember I was the girl who's SSN did not arrive in two weeks. I called up the office they told me they could not help me over the phone and I would have to.go back to their office. I am not in PA right now and I asked if I could go to a diff ssa branch she said no, but the letter says you can visit any branch. So I went to one in NY anyway and she said my number was issued the day I applied and that it must have been a post office issue because I was not registered in my fiance's address. She gave me my number and requested for a replacement. I called up all the post offices in the area but they all said that they would have sent it had they gotten it and I don't need to register. Any idea what to do? I really want to receive this card. Its only been two days though. The ssa lady added my cell number so hopefully that would help. I know you can only request three per year and this is my 2nd, and 3rd would be after ead right?

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

If the post office couldn't deliver the card, it would have been sent back to SSA and destroyed. You wouldn't need to get a new SSN card when you get your EAD card. You want to apply for an unrestricted card when you become a permanent resident, and that doesn't count against the yearly and lifetime limit.

RM 10205.400 Limits on Replacement SSN Cards

https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0110205400

B. SSN cards not counted in determining limits

In determining when an individual has met the yearly or lifetime limits, do not count replacement cards issued for:

-- Original SSN cards;

-- A legal name change (i.e., first name or surname);

-- The addition, change, or removal of a restrictive legend (i.e., Valid for Work Only with DHS Authorization or Not Valid for Employment);

Mine did not arrive after 14 days, and I just requested a replacement at the SS office. I had a friend who had the same issue too. For some reason they just don't do very well with sending out SS IDs through the mail. Just wait for it the second time around and it should arrive, maybe another 14 days. :)

Well FWIW, My wife was not on my PO box or physical address, but she received her's with no issues. (of course it might have been since she had the same last name as me...your case is a little different though) Maybe the post office is just slow?

Most people have no problem receiving the SSN card in the mail. On here you normally only hear from the people that had a problem. I think the name on the mailbox is more of an issue when you live in an apartment. If you live in a single family home, I don't think it would matter.

As far as I know, you do have to show your SS card when you get your license.

You don't need to "show" it but you need to have the number (at least in Iowa)

Yes its true, I had to put my maiden name and my married name on our mail box or they would not leave my mail for me. The only way we figured it out was because one letter for me was put in the box with question marks written all over the envelope. After we put my names on the box a whole stack of mail appeared for me over the next couple of days.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

My name wasn't also registered with my husband's physical address when my 1st SSN card arrived in our address with no issues..it arrived nearly 2 weeks after we applied for it..the name was on my maiden name becoz the SSA office said that I need to AOS first or have my EAD before I can use my husband's surname(was sad coz they didn't recognize our Marraige certificate)...then whenever I received my EAD, we applied for a change of name and it arrived after 7 days..it was written on the paper(receipt..lol) that they gave you after you first applied that in case you don't receive your SSN card after the said time they stated there, you have to call them and inquire...God bless!!

yeah..usually those living in the apartments have greater chances of having problems with receiving mails..but we also lived in an apartment and we didn't have any problems at all..I would agree with advices they give.. :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:
