Quit Job During J-1...

I have a general question... My SO was here on a J-1 visa when I met her. We wanted to spend all the time together that we could before she had to go back home. She ended up quitting her job six weeks prior to the expiration of her visa. Does this disqualify her from receving an approval on the K-1?

Why would her quitting a job on a J1 visa have any affect on a K1?

I don't think it has any impact at all.

I don't think it has any impact at all.

A family member is telling me that since she had a contractual obligation with the J-1 which she "broke" due to her quitting, that it would hinder her ability to receive another visa.

I don't think abandoning J-1 will automatically disqualify her. Was she out of status after leaving her job? - or did she leave the country within the 30 day grace period that usually comes with the J-1?

She quit her job 6 weeks prior to the expiration of her J-1, which would have been September 11, 2010. She flew back home on September 7, 2010. So no, she was not out of status, and left 4 days before she had to. Only because her plane ticket was already made for that date.

She will be fine; she might get a couple of questions about it at the interview, but that's it.

It doesn't matter. I've spent 3 summers in the US on J-1 visa and I always quit job prior my visa exparation date and about 1-4 weeks before flying home. There is no problem with it. As long as she wasn't out of status, she's fine, don't worry.

Thank you guys so much! Now, I am taking off work to spend the next three months with her in her home country. Do you think that it will present a problem that I will not be working, but still employed?
