New York City AOS timeline & Interviews

Hi guys,

It has been 75 days since we sent in our AOS application and nothing has happened since I did my biometrics in December... should I be concerned/worried?

My checks were cashed on Dec. 15. I did walk-in biometrics on Dec. 27th and everything has been quiet since then. On the USCIS website, everything (EAD, AP, etc) is still in "Initial Review."

Any thoughts?

For what it's worth, another NYC AOS filer with my timeline has already received their EAD...

I'm scared that something's wrong!

Hi "HCM2NYC" and "Up and Away",

Thanks for your responses. So you guys scheduled your biometrics appointments yourselves? According to the receipt notice, I'm not allowed to schedule the appointment myself but USCIS will do it for me and it will be the USCIS ASC location closest to where I live which is in Queens.

Hopefully it won't be that tough to get a biometrics appointment in the USCIS ASC Queens. If anybody else can share his/her appointment about his/her experience with the USCIS ASC Queens, I'd really appreciate it.

The way biometrics work is this:

1. You MUST first receive a biometrics letter from USCIS with appointment date, etc.

2. There is a theory that you will get your EAD faster, the earlier you do your biometrics. As a result, some people do a "walk-in" where they take the biometrics letter and go to one of the offices BEFORE their appointment date. In a few rare instances, they are turned away. Most are able to get successfully get their biometrics done. Search Visajourney for more detailed info if you're interested.

3. I did a "walk-in" but it did not speed up my EAD at all, whereas for others, their EAD went into card production the day after they did their walk-in. So it's hard to say how it will affect your timeline.

Good luck.

Hi guys,

Just wanted to share. Just got an email regarding my son's case status. His priority date was Jan 30, they cashed the check on Feb 1, and received this biometrics letter on February 10 with an appointment date for March 5. I thought that was super fast :wow: . Twelves days later He did an early walk-in (Feb. 22), and today, 17 days later we got two updates on his status report for his I-485 and I-130 that stated:

Initial Review

On March 9, 2012, we transferred this case I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS to another office for processing and sent you a notice explaining this action. Please follow any instructions provided on the notice. We will notify you by mail when a decision is made. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

The other email had the same information but referred to the I-130 case. I can't remember what notice I received when I did my interview years ago. He has not been touched for his EAD as yet (he is 15 years old). Has anyone gotten a similar email that was in reference to their interview letter? I know it is not an RFE. This is one and a half months since my priority date. Could this be the interview letter already?
