If your end goal is to graduate from a state university, start there and figure out your best path. All departments have academic advisors

Good luck

You can start at a Community College which you can get your Associates Degree and then continue at a State College for your Bachelors Degree. Usually going to a Community College costs less then a State College so you could save a few bucks for your Associates Degree. Where ever you decide to go you can talk to a admissions advisor, they can guide you in the right direction.

This is exactly what my husband is doing - he is about to finish his associate's in Accounting at a local college and he's now filling out transfer application to a big university in Chicago. Luckily his military GI bill covers all the costs - while community college tuition wasn't bad, the university one will be - thankfully they have yellow ribbon program for private universities.

Whatever University he's going to, Make sure he talks to the Admission advisor about what college He plans to transfer to.

I did the same thing, and half way through my associate I started to look at my transfer options and Sadly found out some of the colleges won't accept some of my courses, It can be really weird sometimes you can have the same course under different names, and one is transferable and the other one is not, So i had to make sure i double check what are the classes that are transferable and make sure i took those courses until I graduated, I ended doing one extra semester because of that, Had i look at all the options earlier I would have avoided that lost time.

Gone but not Forgotten!

If you want to save money, community college is a starting point. First, go to the Student Services. See a counselor. Don't forget to list your questions about your goal before you speak to a counselor.

Good luck!

Always check with the college you want to transfer to! Ask if they accept the credits from the other college. I work in university admissions and I cannot tell you if my college credits are accepted anywhere else because its not up to us, regardless of the reputation of the school. Many factors will come into play like grades, content, curriculum match, accreditation etc.
