LONDON (Reuters) - Mexico's ambassador in London has written a furious letter to BBC bosses to complain about "offensive and xenophobic" comments made by presenters of the popular TV motoring show "Top Gear."

...

"Why would you want a Mexican car? Because cars reflect national characteristics don't they?," said Hammond as they discussed the Mexican sports car, the Mastretta.

"Mexican cars are just going to be lazy, feckless, flatulent, overweight, leaning against a fence asleep looking at a cactus with a blanket with a hole in the middle on as a coat."

The trio then described Mexican food as "refried sick" before suggesting Mexicans spent all day asleep.

"That's why we won't get any complaints about this because at the Mexican embassy the ambassador's going to be sitting there with a remote control like this," said Clarkson, pretending to slump in a chair, snoring.

However, the ambassador did complain, demanding the BBC order the presenters to make a public apology.

They say similar things about Americans. Specifically about people from the south. I am Texan and could care less. The show is excellent. I am the Stig.

Mexico can join the long line of people who have been offended by Top Gear.

And Clarkson, the Hamster and Slowcoach will just continue laughing at all of them, while smoking the tyres of some very fast cars.

the British ( original and best) Top Gear is my favourite show. they joke about everyone everywhere.

Did anyone see the episode where they attempted to drive from Florida to New Orleans in a POS pick up truck, and 2 other POS cars with ' I hate NASCAR' and 'YAY Man Love!' written all over them?....hilarious! They showcased the best of the South

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

Could be because Jeremy Clarkson is from Yorkshire.

(Where's Alan when you need him  )

Had an American RWN comedian indulged in that kind of humor, not one of you LWNs would be so blasé about it.

I think Americans are more fixated than anyone on the content of light entertainment.

Inappropriate humour, sure. But it's nothing to lose sleep over.

Clarkson is undoubtedly right-wing.

Unfortunately you can for some reason disguise the publicly-funded propagation of middle-class xenophobic sentiment by enshrouding it in the trojan horse of a weekly three-man circle-jerk.

Our friends across the water are missing the bigger picture, how could such filthy right wing propaganda air, on public 'librul, politically correct' television in s socialist totalitarian state. Heads will roll!

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
