You're right, like I said, I went by the example forms and thus assumed it would be OK to abbreviate State or Province, as long as Country etc. was written out in full. So I could just correct p.2 of I-129F but send in again all the other original pages and forms?

Yep! I'd look through your package to see if you abbreviated anything else that might confuse someone reading it. Other than that, just make your corrections and send everything else in the same as it is.

Thank you. I realized the same abb. is on my G-325A, so do I have to correct it on a new form, sign it and send to my fiance in the U.S.?

I don't think you'll have to make a whole new form. Have your fiance white-out the abbreviation and write in the long form of the city/state/country. I had some white-out on my application and it didn't seem to be a problem! That is just my personal experience, though. If you feel safer doing a new form, do that. :)

I would of thought putting UK down would be sufficient enough - I think they were mainly confused about GB as that's not a proper term to use here for country.

England would suffice as well I would think...

Well, I live in Baden-Wuerttemberg and I wrote "Baden-Wuerttemberg" if there was enough space. If not, I wrote "BW". I was also very worried about this and looked up the official abbreviation to be on the safe side. Everything went fine. I got my interview appointment yesterday. I wouldn't worry too much. Easier said than done, I know :). Good luck!

I hope I get as lucky :-) I wanted to write Rhineland-Palatinate, the english term for the state Rheinland-Pfalz. I hope we get our NOA1 and NOA2 without any problems, it's just that I put RLP twice and didn't write it out. Maybe in your case they saw you wrote it out and then figured the abbreviation...we'll see. But thanks for sharing your experience and congrats on the interview date

Hello,

I'm applying for I-130, but almost the exact same thing happend to me!!!!! The form was coming back saying that there is some mistake with one of the adresses on the I-130 form. My husband mixed up the lines (it's actually hard to read sometimes: YOu think you should write it under the line and not on it. i hope you know what I'm talking about)So basically everything was on the line below the one it should have been and of course they sent it back. So basically we provided all the information, but on the wrong spaces. How embarrassing! And I graduated from law school and looked over it, but still didn't catch it  . Well whatever. We filled out the whole form again and put this extra page they sent on top and 2 weeks later, Noa nr. 1 arrived, so it was not a big deal, really. So check if everything is on the right line, an don't freak out.

Viel Glück

So on I-129F, on question number 3, is it ok to use the short form of the state? I was born in "Gujarat, India" Gujarat being the state. But I can't get it to fit completely on it. What do I do in situations like that?

Thank you, I hope so too. I abbreviated the months too, that's how it was on the example form and I checked back and on the I-129F example form, in Part B when it asks State/Country, it says Australia (so I put only GERMANY) and when it asks for State or Province in Question 15, it says NSW (so an abbreviation as well, that's why I put RLP). I thought the example forms where pretty trustworthy *sigh*

Thank you for your help, I'll keep you posted. If everything went fine, we should get something in the next few days...unfortunately the servers at my fiancé's bank are down and so he wasn't able to check if the cash was checked since Jan 14th

Abbreviation of the Province is fine but the country must be clear to a US government worker. The country is entered multiple times and in many fields, long country names, like PHILIPPINES won't fit. I recommend spelling out the country name completely in ALL CAPS wherever possible and when there isn't enough room, spell it as completely as possible. They'll see it spelled completely very nearby, so will understand.

Certain abbreviations, like USA, or UK are clearly understood. GB might be but I have no experience doing it that way. The Scottish, and Welch can use either Scotland, Wales or UK without issue for country name, nationality and citizenship,

For "mail" only the country name must be clearly readable but there's a different standard for getting correct information into a database by a government worker.

For instance, we always address mail to China in Chinese. The only thing the US Postal Worker can read is CHINA. That wouldn't work for an immigration form except where the name and address in native characters is asked for.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous

If you not sure you can always write see attached and on a extra paper fully id the question and the section...and than you can write everything out...i.e

1 anystree, anytown, anycounty, anystate, usa, North America, Earth, 07001. It is a pain but there will be no confusion.

I'm not sure this is 100% accurate. The Scottish and the Welsh are from the countries of Scotland and Wales. However, their nationality/citizenship is as a citizen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. When I stated my address, the country was England (Great Britain is not a country) but my nationality is British and I'm a citizen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

To be honest, MDDX would stump most English folk too! When abbreviated it's more often seen as M'sex. People often just use their house number and post code for return addresses, so it would look like

J. Bloggs

36: SM2 5AZ

This is because SM2 is a specific area and 5AZ is a specific road in that area. The sorting postie would loathe your guts for making them look it all up but it's a valid address within England. Not so for the USCIS lol

On the G-325A, I hand wrote the full name for Nordrhein Westfalen for a previous address and didn't shorten any of it, except Rd for road, St for street, etc.

As long as it's an obvious one yes. For instance the G-325A for the months I wrote "JAN", "JUN" and "AUG" etc those are obvious. Hopefully this time you'll be fine.
