Whatever they write on the I94 when you arrive typical no more than 6 months, and total time for a multiple entry no more than 180 days a year

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Usually six months :)

December 2009 -- Visit to Malaysia.

February 2010 -- Applied for B2 visa, approved.

March 2010 -- Visited US.

April 2010 -- Returned from US.

May 2010 -- Sent in K1 Visa application.

July 2010 -- Received NOA2 in 71 days from NOA1.

July 2010 -- Packet 3 received.

August 2010 -- Cancellation of K1 Visa application.

What is the maximum time allowed in the States on a B1/B2 visa?

6 months.

Oct 15 2012 - Pay IV fee
Oct 25 2012 - Sent AOS/IV Package
Oct 29 2012 - Pkg Delivered
Dec 24 2012 - Case Complete
May 17 2013 - Interview-Approved

July 19 2013 - Enter the USA

If the I94 is dated for one week and a person stayed over that week, does the overstay start after the dated week or 6months?

The day after the expiration date on the I-94 card is the day unlawful presence begins .... so after the 1 week.

The B-2 Tourist Visa is also known as the visitor visa. The B-2 Visitor Visa is approved for individuals who wish to enter United States for a temporary period for pleasure, travel to visit family, friends, engage in tourist activities or receive medical treatment. The B-2 Visitor Visa can also pertain to individuals who will accompany a spouse or partner who enters the United States on another visa status.
