It was 2 weeks if I remember correctly. The first time I had the plaster cast, but the second time- as it was a less invasive surgery- I only had tape applied, which again I had on for two weeks. My skin was awful after that! My nose was all pruney, but the prune dents stayed for weeks and weeks! Thought they would be there forever!

If you think you would feel more comfortable with a 'new' nose, I would say go for it. Simply because I know the type of work you want doing is fairly simple- and I have seen it be successful before. I agree with other posters that I dont really think you need it- you are beautiful as is- but of course I do know the feeling of wanting the change  And yet, after 2 surgeries, I still have that self-conscious problem with my nose- always aware of it. In fact, probably more so now- as it has been such a focus what with the surgeries, I probably think about it more now than I did before! Ironic huh?

If you do decide to go ahead, my advise would just be to be prepared for it not to turn out exactly as you plan. I remember the surgeon saying to me that only 1 in 10 people that have rhinoplasty are 100% happy with it. The problems being, people want perfection, but things are never 'perfect', as also, as I mentioned before, seeing yourself in the mirror, but seeing a different face is really something to get used to. Especially as the swelling reamains for many months.People, as did I, expect sudden beauty once the cast is removed- but what you see is quite the opposite!!

Aw thanks mawilson! My budget is a little TBD. I *want* to live in Brooklyn, as that seems to be where most of my friends have gone, but I will need to not live with roommates. Any kind of apartment will do, really, although ideally a lofted studio for less than 1000 would be great. Park Slope, Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Red Hook are a few places I've got people. I don't have a job or any leads yet though, so I'd assume securing employment would be a good idea before moving. I just don't know how it's done there! I really, really don't want to pay a broker's fee and I keep looking on Craigslist but am a little clueless as to exactly where is good and where is not good.

I know it's possible to find a semi-decent 2-bedroom in Brooklyn for around $1,200-1,400,

so in theory a $1,000 should get you a studio or even one-bedroom.

The best way, I think, is to move here and stay with your friends for a week or so

while looking for an apartment.

...I will need to not live with roommates.

bwaahahahahahha well you see, once we have a command of grammar we can bend all the rules... um, yes, that's the rationale...

I meant "not live" as the entire verb to add emphasis, you see... "I need to not live" as in "I need to sleep." Yep. There's my justification...

OK, so I think perhaps I will ask the doctor to change my overall appearance only minorly. I don't really want people saying "hey wow, you had a great nose job," you know? I just don't want them to notice. If I had a handy picture of my grandma, though, I think everyone would immediately understand the nose job issue. I have about 10 more years on this nose before it starts drooping practically into my mouth. And that's not cute. I think I'll do it, but not expect it to change my life or even make me look better NOW, but just view it as sort of a preventative measure.

I think you are very cute, and first thing I noticed was your big blue eyes not your snoz! Your mom sounds like mine, probably not meaning to hurt your feelings but those small comments can stay with you for life. Mine always referred to my nose as a hook nose/witch nose. Now that I am older I don't think twice about my nose. I suffered from a severe under bite as a child, and everyone seemed to point it out and they loved the dentists term "bulldog jaw" ugggh. Despite it being corrected as a teenager (many a tongue depresser pushing against my top teeth), and perfectly aligned teeth (God given) I still will not do a big teethy grin. So my point is if you are uncomfortable with your nose, it isn't a terrible procedure then do it! As far as your comment that you want people to notice, I don't think ya do. You want people NOT to notice your nose any more! If mom is willing to pay for it, you go for it!

Hey I'm thinking of getting "Mr. Wiggly" enlarged a little. Does anyone have any ideas on that?
Check your spam box, probably lots of advice and products for this problem there!

I really cannot comment one way or the other lest you post a pix of the grotesque appendage......

What say you post a picture of the alleged offending appendage so that we may comment intelligently?

Sorry, didn't see the pictures the first time through this thread.

Yep, I would think that there could be a little "tweaking" done.......

I didn't notice your nose! You are so pretty! :) I actually DON'T want people to notice... maybe I forgot a word in that sentence? Hehehe. I would be a little reluctant to pull an Ashley Simpson or something and one day show up in public with an entirely new face.

I think I've got my mind made up after sleeping on it.

I had one when I was 24. It wasn't painful or difficult, and it was a little more involved than what you are talking about. You can PM me if you want any details!

I kept my nose through my teen years while all the girls in my shcool had nose jobs... I just didn't get it. Then my father, who has the same nose as me, started aging, and I saw it change shape. I did not like it! So I changed mine. The overall effect was one of softening my features, and not a radical change at all. Or so I am told.

Have never regretted it, or felt vain or ashamed. If it is something you want to do, go for it. If you are hesitating because you aren't sure, then you probably should wait. :)

Well, I read your post, thought about it, and then decided to schedule a consultation for September 13. We'll see how it goes! Then I'll have plenty of time (another month and a half) before the next possible surgery date.

Thanks for all the help guys. (F)
