welcome to getting old.

Come on Charles you are loving it - all these young guys hurtling around the world looking for the perfect ... and then the trauma of immigration...and then the euphoria...and then the reality pressing in .... and you and I are on the other side of all that and they are on the tough side starting out...

I actually think the immigration thing can hold people together in tough times as they are 'locked in' to the process and can't just 'finish it' with a phone call.

So for flighty people, it can be a course in acceptance and compromise

If my wife had been from 5 miles away in England I would have called it off lots of times, but because I was so heavily invested, (in many ways), I didn't. That gave me time to see the totality of the situation and become acclimatised and give it more chance. I never had to do that during my 16 years single and on the razz with a new GF every 6 months max. I got some bad habits with my fit body and nice Mercedes and bulging wad.

So these matters are complicated and what is easy to stereotype, is much more complex in practice where everyone is setting off from a different starting point and with different mind sets and different personalities and different personal histories

so no matter what i do or how i do it... it won't end well. good to know.

Nope, you are going to die. We are all on the same conveyor belt with the whirling knives in sight.

If it was just me I would be depressed - but as it's all of us, that is really fair and a reason to be cheerful !

...and the beautiful wives will get all saggy and cellulity and go off 'the other' and get all menopausally that is all very egalitarian too.

Who said life isn't fair - it's very fair - eventually

I think I have found balance for the time being; but if you gentlemen are right (and I have no reason to doubt the judgment of men of your advanced years) then I do have demons to look forward to in my future :)

Please tell me you are kidding if you take the advice of some of these men seriously. I'd assume you are kidding but who really knows?!

Just build yourself a comfortable mancave. Be sure to include the half-bath with a urinal only.

I have got one ! It's great. Rifles, pistols, boat, outboard, 5 computers, cheap hydro electric...

2 cats

8 inches rain per annum and 300 days blue skies and a young wife with a great job to supply my top end health insurance.

It's almost enough to make me want to contribute to charity to repay the world for my good fortune

almost

However, the younger members can take comfort in knowing that I will be scattered ashes on Ilkley Moor and my son will have snorked a chunk of the money up his nose long before they get to Medicare

When you think about it, life is so short and brutal that so what if guys go and risk a lot getting a mail order bride

Let's have some fun while we are bouncing along towards the crematorium

then you get sidelined because the kids are more important.

If a man has an equal interest in their children, they shouldn't feel sidelined. Unless they treat their wife like their mom and are now missing the mommy attention of cleaning up and cooking every meal. :P I am not saying this to you but in general...men who think their wives are their mommies too are a pet peeve to me. I understand if a woman stays home, like me, I do more things around the house and wouldn't expect my husband to. But he still helps with things anyway. If both people are working full time, and the woman is still expected to do everything- ick.

But it is possible about the leprechauns tearing parents apart, especially the father, unfortunately. :( But there are some precautions that can be taken to make your house leprechaun proof. Can't blame that one on the wife!
