While I find this entire LDR/immigration process to be generally worrisome, tiresome and otherwise stressful, I constantly attempt to remind myself of the 'pluses' it does offer. Such as the opportunity to choose which continent to live on OR the legitimate excuse of visiting family for international travel!

Now the way I see it my husband and I have several anniversaries we can celebrate. A benefit 'regular' couples don't have. Now let me see...

Sept. 2 - the date I flew to him and we have been permanently reunited since!

Sept. 6 - the date of his approved visa

Sept. 15 - the date we flew back to America and began our new life here together

Oct. 15 - our actual wedding date

Now the question is - which one deserves the biggest celebration? Or more appropriately the biggest gift?

I mean - seriously - this whole process just sucks and I think we should max out our opportunities to pour liquor on something or revel in the receipt of gifts......heh heh

Can drink to all 4! but state that teh wedding date is actual "big fling" date... since I've been married twice (1 civ, 1 church) to same woman... she wants dinner and gift on both anniversary dates... go figure eh..? :P

It was a combination of hilarious and REALLY FAST. First of all, I really really regret that they don't let you take pictures in the courthouse, since it's a criminal court, so I couldn't document in photos all the romantic details -- the Men's Room sign hanging near the sign for "The Chapel," the drab yellow walls, the enormous, dirty oscillating fan they had propped outside of the Chapel that made this "BURRRRRRRRRRR" noise, the other bride who wouldn't stop cursing at the man who was either the groom or the best man, the maintenance worker who came strolling by pulling a huge bin of garbage, and the tiny utility closet where the ceremony was performed (that's The Chapel). Second of all, the ceremony itself took 3 seconds and I started laughing because right in the middle of it our freshly minted marriage certificate came sliding out from under the space between the door and the floor as it was being passed to the lady who performed the ceremony. She just picked it up and kept going lol.

I *DO* think it was cool that we were married by a woman though

We're married!!!!!!:D :D And I keep being like "My fiance' -- err -- HUSBAND..." lol. It was fun, definately an experience. Right now my brand new husband is watching some South American soccer on the TV. I can see his gold wedding band shining in the light :D He's MINE all MINE!!!! Mmmmwahahhhhahaha!!! officially!

congrats on being married, but in a criminal court?

LOL, yes, The Bronx County Courthouse IS a criminal court. I know my mother's served jury duty there many many times (I have yet to have that great honor). That's the OTHER super-sweet romantic thing about our wedding -- only two floors above us (and yes, marriages *DO* take place in the basement, where no sunshine may enter) murderers were being tried and sentenced lol

Thanks! I hope so too lol -- how's the relocating coming along!? My husb and I went to get the actual marriage license downtown at 60 Center Street. It's also kind of sleazy, but only like half as much as the Bronx one, but since you can't use your newly issued marriage license for 24 hours prior to getting it AND since my dad would have had trouble going downtown for the ceremony, we did it in The Bronx instead.

Any opportunity to celebrate with my husband is always welcome. I say the wedding is the biggie, but not to negate all the other special dates...maybe those special dates could be celebrated in a way to build up to the "big one".

Now that I think of it, Joel and I have a lot of anniversaries ;)

My first year was a couple weeks back but I had a load of family here during that time. We all celebrated with a nice dinner but hubby and I waiting for a time when he can have a day off to really celebrate together. My birthday is coming up soon too, I don't want the celebrations to mix, i want two seperate celebrations, is that so selfish of me?? lol probably but i still want both!
