Hi folks,

I just wanted to share my j1 waiver timeline with you. This forum has been really helpful for me so I thought I would give my 2 cents. It took me about 3 months (4 if you include time to prepare documents and receive the waiver).

I am still waiting to receive a copy of the waiver in the mail but it looks like it's over!

Only advise: be precise and more important, be POSITIVE!

Good luck everybody!

Mathilda

Hi Mathilda,

Congratulations on the approval of your waiver!

I am going to start the J-1 waiver process based on no objection from my home country. I already have all the necessary documents. I just need to finish writing my Statement of Reason. I am now in the US under a F-1 visa, a month ago I got married to a U.S. citizen. I don't know if I should write this on my Statement of reason. Or just say: "The reason I need a waiver is because my country doesn't object" ??

I need your help, please. Thank you.

Adjustment of Status from F-1 Student Visa:

Hi!

To write a good Statement of Reason you can:

1. Google it. Google "Statement of Reason J1 waiver" and you will find samples that may inspire you in writing yours.

2. Explain how your knowledge and experience would best benefit an American employer.

3. If you studied, you can argue that you would like to contribute all your knowledge, enthusiasm, and passion continue research, or to improve your knowledge or your skills.

Anyway, if your ccountry gives you the NO Objection letter, the Statement of Reason is not that important.

Good luck!

I think you are right about that, but only partially. In fact, my country asked me to write a statement of reason, to give me the NoObjection letter! So you might as well keep it ready!

Hi!

So far I have received positive recommendation and receipt of notice from USCIS and am tracking my case online (vermont processing center). How long did it take for USCIS to update their website after they received the favourable recommendation? Was it before or after you received the final notice of action? I am asking because my case only became online a couple of days after I received the USCIS notice of receipt, and I am now wondering how long it will take for the notice of action to arrive.

Thanks!

Hi!

Department of State sent me the favorable recommendation on November 22, and USCIS-Vermont Center sent me the notice of action, or I795c, on December 6. On December 27, I got a text message from USCIS saying that they mailed the waiver that day. I got it on January 5th. Hope this helps! Unfortunately, I don't remember how long it took them to update their website.

Thank you for the info! That is great to hear. Do you mean you received the i-797c receipt notice on 6 Dec? It's now almost been three weeks since USCIS sent me the receipt notice so I am hoping it won't be too much longer!

Yes, I got the I-765c on December 6. Good luck to you!

Hi Romancita,

Congratulations for getting the waiver and thank you for sharing your experience here.

I have also started the procedure for J1 waiver.

My application was updated on DOS webpage on 10th of February, only couple of days after sending my documents.

On 14th of February I received at home the No Objection Letter from the Embassy (letter dated 8th of February).

Since then, no update about my No Objection Letter on the DOS webpage.

I do not even know if the NOL was received by DOS or not. I cannot reach anybody there.

I called the Embassy to ask if they will send another letter, in case the first one did not arrive. They will do this only if they will get an official notification from DOS in this regard.

I saw that you had to ask for another NOL from the Embassy.

Did you get any notification from DOS in this regard? How did you find that the NOL was not received?

Thank you very much and hope to talk with you more,

Corina

Hey - it takes about 2 weeks for the DoS to "receive" your NoL as it has to be mailed around to a number of departments and get x-rayed and what not. So hopefully it should be online in the next few days! My experience with DoS has been quite pleasant as they were very quick with the favourable recommendation after they received all documents. I'm now still waiting for the USCIS final approval ...

I heard that USCIS can take a while. Good luck to you too.

Hi, I have a question:

DOS received all my documents AND the no objection letter. It says there that they received it on may 19th. My case status is NOT pending. it says "case status: favorable recommendation", however it doesn't say the favorable recommendation was sent to USCIS. is it possible that they forgot to update it, or is it possible that even though they decided for a favorable recommendation they didn't send it to USCIS yet?

How long does it usually take for them to send it after they have a decision?

Hi, i may take a while, but you'll eventually receive a NOA and will be able to check the status on the USCIS website. It took about 10-14 days for me.
