Great news! Congrats!

I am still gathering all the documents for my Adjustment of Status from F-1. It is a lot of work since we are doing everything ourselves, without a lawyer. Hope to send the AOS package this week...

Good luck! Keep us posted.

updating... I've been keeping calling, emailing, faxing BOTH uscis and dos, still without any luck!

but then, yesterday, i finally received DOS favorable recommendation letter! It says it was sent on may 24th, but i only received it yesterday. USCIS still says that there's no case open in my name. But since I just got the favorable recommendation letter yesterday i'll give them some time until I call again... but if nothing changes i'm thinking about sendind them this letter myself!

oh well... at least this gave me a little hope not to give up

UPDATE!

I had practically given up on this waiver, when I finally got some good news today. What happened is that neither DOS or USCIS did anything to help me or even responded my emails/faxes. So in July, when I finally received the favorable recommendation from DOS on the mail I decided to send it myself to USCIS along with a letter explaining the situation. I sent it by snail mail AND by email! Today I finally received an email from USCIS saying my case was finally opened in August 19th and they also sent me my case number!! Now I finally have a case and I can follow it online!!! Hopefully from now on things will go smoothly! =)

Hi Erica,

Good to read that you already have a USCIS case number. I also applied for the J1 waiver, documents submitted in late June, favorable recommendation issued in late July and USCIS receipt date is also August 19th. I know one more person who also applied for the waiver (about 2 months before I did) and USCIS received his case also in the 19th. Seems like either DOS send a bunch of cases at the same time in August to USCIS, or USCIS was behind in entering the applications and finally got to add a bunch of us at the same time. In any case, I haven't heard anything from USCIS yet, it still says Initial Review when I check the status online. Hopefully they don't take too long in making the decisions, the wait can be stressful. From what I've been reading online they usually take 2-3 weeks, but in some cases they've taken months to issue the waiver.

Do you have any updates on your case? Good luck! I'll let you know through here if there's any updates in my case.

Hi erica_itz,

There was an update on my case in the USCIS website. It says my waiver was approved. I will still wait for the official document in the mail. Maybe they updated yours too. Good luck!

Hi, I have a question! I put my mailing address as my boyfriend's address in the US (cuz I'm currently in Brazil and I thought it would be easier to receive mail there). He just sent me an email saying that a letter arrived for me from USCIS. All he said in the email is that he opened the letter and it says it's an approval notice waiver of the two year requirement and also that it says it's not a visa. Then he sent me another email saying I-612, application to waive foreign residence requirements, approval notice. Is that the actual waiver??? Or should I expect to receive something else? He's traveling right now and I'm anxious to find out if that's really the waiver or just an approval notice!! Thanks!

Hola Alexa
