Does anybody have experience with filing the K-1 and then going to the beneficiary country and getting married in the meantime? I am planning on marrying my fiance while we wait out the Visa. How do we deal with this in the interview? Will it make a difference? I hope they don't reject and make us start over because we are now a k-3 or something horrific.

A K-1 is for your FIANCE. If you get married he/she becomes your husband/wife.

If you get married the visa petition you have going will be abandoned due to her now being your wife....you will have to start over and do a cr-1 spousal visa as she will not be a fiancee anymore.

Yep, that's pretty much what would happen. As others have said, a K-1 is only for a fiance(e) so it is no longer an option if you get married.

You also cant get your money back that you spent already for the K-1 so not only do you lose that money but you have to pay AGAIN for the CR-1 and you have to start waiting from the start all over again and possibly longer for the CR-1.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

What do you think? Revisit the definitions of K-1 and CR-1.

I hope they don't reject and make us start over because we are now a k-3 or something horrific.

Yes that is exactly what will happen, and you get to pay money again and spend more time waiting. Your call.

At every stage in the process, including the interview and the actual PoE, they will ask "Are you legally free to marry?" If the answer at any point is no, your K-1 visa disappears and you have to start all over with a spousal visa.

And it goes without saying that if you lie at any point in the process, and it is later found out [even after eventual citizenship], all of your progress up to that point can be erased (including revocation of the beneficiary's US citizenship, if they have it by then).

In other words, marrying your fiance(e) while you are waiting for a fiance(e) visa is a HORRIBLE idea, and don't do it.

I am hoping to visit my fiance in February or March... I would give anything in the world to marry him at that point in time. But I know that since we filed our K-1, we have to wait. Just wait it out like the rest of us... it's miserable but doable...

Wish they'd expedite mine too. It has been a while and not having a job doesn't make things any prettier. Such is life.
