What would you think

The company I work for is very unstable and has a lot of "problems" - 2 big layoffs since end of last year, another next week, and another at the end of September. PI's and industrial Psychologists have been called in because of "threatening, stalking, harassment" by someone within the company.

I've got on really well with the company and my job is not immediately under threat though I have heard that it will be changing. If the following scenario happened what would you think? How would you react, if at all?

If a VIP, actually, the EVP who is one of your immediate bosses in your company said “I heard a funny story last night.

A legal friend of mine was telling me about someone called <YOUR NAME>who comes from <WHERE YOU COME FROM> and lives in <COUNTY WHERE YOU LIVE> and she is”:…useless (and other words to that effect). “she’s an attorney in <COUNTY WHERE YOU LIVE> and she is useless…”

“< I asked her if she had red hair (I DO) and he said no, brown hair> What’s the likelihood of that!...so he thinks YOU'RE useless…”

What would you make of it, assuming you had Google searched this <YOUR NAME> who is supposedly an Attorney in <YOUR COUNTY> and nothing could be found? Would you conclude that this VIP is trying to tell you something, or would you think nothing of it?

Wow I got confused even reading over that a second time. My thought... if a EVP is talking ####### like that I would have nothing to do with it.. I have seen lay offs where they will go around bad mouthing people saying things and the second you agree... BOOT! you are out the door.. personal situation though

What kind of imbecile would make up that rigamarole in hopes that you would get a hint? He's either stupid for doing so, or stupid for not putting two and two together and realizing that his legal friend was referring to you. In either case, he's really put his foot in his mouth. Hvae you considered calling him on it?

I have been putting my resume out there simply because I don't know what the long-term future of the company is and I don't like having such an insecure environment. The last lay-off they had, they called people in one by one at 10am, had them escorted to their desks one by one by a security guard brought in specially, and they were out the door by 11am!

I did consider calling him on it, but don't want to come across as being super-sensitive or childish in rising to it, so I just laughed it off. It's irriating me though, as to why he would have done such a thing. Of my bosses, he was the one I always considered to be easy-going, and have open communication etc!

its dog eat dog.. when layoffs are coming down the way .. people will do anything to get rid of others before them..

I didn't know the layoffs were coming yet (I was off the monday they announced) The second I walked in the door one of my 3 bosses (hahah) asked to see me and was asking me if I could bring up some great ideas to improve the company.. He said he wanted to see me excel.. so I told him some ideas.. I got out of the meeting with him .. to my desk .. later that day I got laid off.. .. basically his job was being eliminated and wanted to say he had ideas.. so they laid me off and he got a "similar" position to mine.. demotion but he kept his pay..
