So, you already know. By the way,Guangzhou is a Consulate, not Embassy. The US Embassy is always in the Capital city of any country where there is one.

LGC, I have been wondering the same thing, as my file was just sent from the NVC to the Guangzhou Consulate, and I also got chastised for calling it an Embassy on this board. It can go 2 ways from NVC to Guz, Safefile which is like email, and only takes a day, or DHL which can get held up in Chinese Customs for up to 3 months.I just called ths State Department today and they say mine was received in Guangzhou yesterday and a packet 3 is already being sent out.I hope that is true, that means it went by Safefile. So call the Department of State at 1-202-663-1225 press 1, then press 0 for an agent, and see what they say. Good Luck. Bill

Just a few days for my file to reach GUZ and a couple of days for my wife to receive P3 after that.

I didn't frontload my petition with a whole bunch of stuff, just essential evidence like boarding passes, itinerary, some emails and chat log, some photos, phone records etc. Nothing excessive.

It was a speedy transition to GUZ for us. Got P3 very quickly after NOA2.

LGC, I was just checking some posts on Guangzhou and it says when you call DOS, ask if the file is Loaded or Open. I guess Open is what we want. Loaded means they received the file electronically, but won't process the file until Opened. Good Luck, Bill

"It's not an Embassy. It's a Consulate." is "information" not "chastisement". Relax. Here's some more "information".

Chinese Customs is not holding up your package. The Consulate uses the DHL Customs Warehouse as a storage facility. When they're ready to work more cases, they provide the needed documents to clear customs and the packages are delivered to the Consulate the next day.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that there was an agreement that the files would sit in the DHL warehouse for 3 months before being processed by GUZ.

November 2, 2010 - Sent form I-129F to the Dallas Lockbox.

November 12, 2010 - Received NOA1 from VSC.

November 23, 2010 - touched

May 12, 2011 - NOA2

May 19, 2011 - NVC received

June 1, 2011 - NVC file scanned and uploaded to Guangzhou

June 13, 2011 - P3 sent from GUZ

June 23, 2011 - P3 forms sent to GUZ (Did not receive the packet from GUZ yet)

June 28, 2011 - P3 received by GUZ

July 4, 2011 - P4 documents received

July 23,2011 - Medical

July 26,2011 - Document turn in

July 27,2011 - Interview - Approved !!

August 2, 2011 - Visa Issued

August 6, 2011 - Visa in Hand!

That's not the agreement. If there's an agreement at all, there's no specific time frame. The Consulate will take delivery when they are ready. Seldom is that more than three months but also seldom less than four weeks.
