A fire was reported early this morning at a the Salman Alfarisi Islamic Center in Corvallis where Portland bomb plot suspect Mohamed Osman Mohamud sometimes attended.

The fire was reported at about 2:30 a.m. today. Officials would not say how the fire started, citing an investigation.

Islamic Center leader Imaam Yosof Wanly condemned the alleged plot by the 19-year-old Oregon State University student, stating he "denounced the actions of Mohamed Mohamud."

Wanly said he doesn't believe the fire is a reflection on the community of Corvallis where he has lived for 24 years.

"I know people here know the true reality of the Muslim community here," he said. "It's a sad situation."

Wanly said Mohamud was not a regular attendee of the mosque, but that he came once or twice a month since arriving on campus.

The fire was contained to one room in the mosque, an office, which was 80 percent damaged and there were no injuries.

Early Sunday morning, a green tarp covered a burned a window where the office was located on the first floor of the northwest side of the building. There is no sign on the two-story, white stucco structure that states the name of the center. Corvallis Police Department officials expect to release more information on the fire within the next hour.

I think the FEDS should investigate this.... Mosque.

What they hell were they teaching in there that one of their attendees wanted to blow up innocent women and Children.

Imagine if this were some militia group with the same circumstances ...... does anyone doubt this group would not be infiltrated and investigated?

If this Muhamad guy is just some loose cannon and the Mosque is all about the "Religion of peace" fine... but we need to know that.

I for one never saw this Mohamed Mohamud at our mosque but that does not mean he never attended as I do not always go.....but if it makes people feel better sure investigate away.....we have nothing to hide

but yr completely silent on the issue of the possible act of terror committed against the patrons of this mosque if it is indeed arson. interesting.

like i mentioned in the other thread about the turnidges-an oregon father and son who blew up two police officers a couple years ago, they were shady as all get out, asking for loans to buy military grade weapons for their militia, praising tim mcveigh, cheering about the ok city bombing. but not a single whiff of interest from the feds. so yeah, i doubt they would be infiltrated and investigated. two cops died, and another lost his leg. salem, where they committed the bank bombing, is less than an hour away from this mosque.

"act of terror" is a bit of a stretch. The fire occurred at 2:30am. More like vandalism! Could have been high school kids, probably was. A Muslim terrorist would have killed 100s, injured 100s, killed themselves, and destroyed 1000s of families in a matter of hours (see Iraq church massacre). That was an act of terror in the name of Islam. This event was petty vandalism.

So if the teenagers are caught they should serve life in guantamano for acts of terror? Lol! There was no intention to mass murder anyone as the petty vandalism (small fire) was lit at 2:30am. Nobody was in the mosque. Big difference between explosives with lots of people around and fire with nobody around.

I think you meant to type "Building you don't like"

at 2:30 in the morning it seems to me the arson could not have picked a better time if he was trying to NOT hurt people.

That said, anytime you torch a building in which you have no way of knowing if someone might be... inside, it is a pretty serious crime.

I hope the person who did it is caught and punished accordingly.

I also can not rule out the possibility it was an inside job.

Revenge/payback??? Seriously? I think it is pretty pathetic to make light of this arson. The issue I have with Radical Islam is the same issue I have with the idiot(s) responsible for the arson, stupidity in action.

Arson is a serious crime in and of itself and to pretend this arson was not committed as some sort of misguided revenge against the Mosque and it's Muslim attendees is pretty pathetic.

I feel pretty bad for the Muslims of Corvales if there are many more arsonists or sympathizers such as you around. Let law enforcement do their jobs.
