My exwife and I took her sister to the Mountains here in Southern CA for some 4x4 fun a long time ago. The sister-in-law wanted to hear some Country & Western music because she wanted to be reminded of her home (Texas). So, we played the music on the radio, and I kept laughing so much (at the lyrics and the fiddle), that she began to feel embarrased. I couldn't help it. And the songs were mostly about the singer's Momma.

To each his/her own.

I'm a lifetime resident of NY but I used to listen to a NJ university radio program that featured the old western swing masters (Bob Wills, Patsy Cline, etc.).

They are definitely an acquired taste but my tastes in music are eclectic.

I've heard bluegrass to be described as "singin' so good about feelin' so bad"

- for the same reasons I'm enthusiastic about the blues;

both come from the soul - the soul has no color.

I have as much enthusiasm for Patsy Cline as I have for Billie Holiday;

each was great but in different styles.

I enjoy any/all types but my standards for excellence are high; there are good & bad examples of all genres.
