Got a question on these vaccinations needed for the medical form I-693.

I had to get them all since I had no evidence from my country, although I am sure at some point I had them done.

My doctor filled out the form after I got them done. I sent it off. Everything OK.

But at the clinic, where I got the shots, they told me I needed to come back for a second set on 2 of them and after 6 months one more time.

We are talking some money here. I asked the doctor and she recommended it.

Did any of you have a similar experience? Are they maybe needed for the Biometrics or something? Should I get them done?

Thanks

Yes in some vaccinations you need 2 shot.Like 1 today and 2nd is after 1 month. I know in our country(Mumbai,India),they told to the applicants you need to come again for the 2nd shot of the Varicella vaccine.

I didn't require any additional vaccinations as mine were all up to date.

However, some vaccinations are not just a shot but a series of shots. I don't think your doctor is trying to pull a fast one on you, if that is what you are concerned about. If you aren't sure, just call around to a few different clinics and see what they say.

Its not that I don't believe the doctor, I am just debating if its necessary. Most likely I had all these shots and even the illness as a child already so it might be money wasted. I was curious if I needed to demonstrate proof further down the road that I got the entire series of shots.

You will not need to demonstrate further proof down the line. You are from Germany? I would expect you had most of the shots or the illness as in the case of varicella (chicken pox).

For another fee, you can also get your blood tested for antibodies. Most larger cities have free clinics for these very basic shots, you could look into that as well.

Sometimes translating illnesses into different languages is pretty difficult. My husband and I had some funny conversations when I tried to explain the diseases. I was like you really think you had mumps? You throat and face got all swollen and lumpy? Really? Are you sure you know what that means? What?? Lol.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Here's my take on this.

I too had no proof of previous vaccinations, and since I'm anti-shots for health reasons, the surgeon gave me three options:

1) You refuse this based on religious grounds and wait a year longer until you get your Green Card.

2) We pump you full of this stuff and you take it like a man

3) We run a test panel and based on your body's reactions find out what vaccinations you already have.

I opted for #3 which required 2 more visits within the following few days but that was it.

When "done" I asked about the follow up and got the information that nobody at USCIS gives a #######. Once that medial form is signed, it's ready to be adjudicated. Well, I never went back and I never looked back.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

I fortunately had copies of my little yellow book, the "Impfbuch" that is 30 plus years old, in some spots not really readable anymore due to faded ink.

My family practice physician looked at it and told me that even though the MMR was supposed to be a one time thing only, latest science research shows it

will remain strong with a refresher after so many years.

As far as your 2nd and 3rd vaccination steps go - I can't help but thinking that you got vaccinated for Hepatitis A and B as well? I know I did and for those

I do have additional appointments as they require more then just one dose.

And like the others here said - there's no need for that immigration wise, but in your own interest to be protected it is necessary to have the full coverage.

USCIS wants to have the basics covered which you got done and certified.

Good luck with your application!

M.

Thanks M. You made me smile - you can't believe how much I have searched for that darn Impfbuch. Mine was red ( for east Germany) with a black cover over it. I could have sworn that I brought it to the States; I see it in my mind. I even remember how we all trotted over to the health center one day, in school, and got those shots.

Anyway, my second set was due today and I got them. They were not for hep, but MM something, tetanus and varicella or something like that. Oh well. I figured I finish what I started. But interesting was that the lady at the health center insisted that INS requires them and she could not believe that I did not need hep shots. Not sure where they get their info from.
