Their economy is in the tank and they can't buy new planes. They also have a bunch of Jap Zeros they got cheap.

If the US did not have government regulation in place regarding foreign ownership, all of the US airlines would have had their azz handed to them. What does mechanical failure have to do with the government? The have had one crash in over 90 years and that was in the ~50's involving 5 people. Their regulation seems to be working quite well actually. What's the track-record of US airlines in this area?
