Hi all,

I want to know what is the best practice to avoid any administration error or typo on NVC case number.

Take USA2010502005 for example, it represents NVC case created on 1/2/2010 for 5th case for consulate USA.

As you can see, there are many zeros and one can make mistake when typing or reading this number. What's your recommendation? USA-2010-502-005?

14-JAN-2017 -:- N400 form NOA1 on hand through USPS

30-JAN-2017 -:- N400 fingerprint taken

01-FEB-2017 -:- N400 interview schedule process started

26-JUL-2017 -:- N400 interview date set (01SEP2017)

29-JUL-2017 -:- N400 interview letter on hand

01-SEP-2017 -:- N400 interview date - Interview passed

If it is 534, it is Feb 3rd -> 500+31+3

NVC Assigns the Case Number in the format LLLNNNNNNNNNN Where:

LLL is three letter code of the Foreign U.S consulate where beneficiary appears,

first NNNN is the four digit year NVC assigned the Case Number,

second NNN is the three digit Julian Date NVC assigned the case,

last NNN is the three digit serial number of the day NVC assigned the case.

For example, if your case is at Chennai, India and the case is assigned on January 2, 2008 and it is the 2nd case on that date, your case # will be MDR-2008-502-002. That is MDR2008502002.

Chella,

Most lawyers will wait for NVC correspondence by regular mail. It will slow down this NVC process.

Check with your lawyer if they communicate to NVC by emails and pay the bills electronically etc. to speed up the process.
