Hi! My name is Sam.

I've been married for I've been married for almost two months now and I'm still filling all of this paperwork out!

My hubby and I are having the most difficult time with the I-864, especially since it's asking us for a copy of all of his previous tax papers but he's been unemployed for a long time due to his being a full-time student but he has recently acquired a job and can now support me! Hence why he felt ready to propose. <3

Anyway, besides that, I'm filling all of my forms out via PDFs on the computer and am wondering if all the forms need to be filled out in CAPITAL LETTERS.

I visited my civil surgeon today and he made me fill out the first part of the i-693 4 times until there were absolutely no mistakes, no unsure lines.

How strict is the USCIS when it comes to these forms?

Help! Any and all advice is welcomed. I'm going crazy!

Your husband should meet the minimum income requirement of $18,212 (am assuming you have no children yet, since you mentioned none...that number goes higher depending on how many children are involved in the application). This refers to current income, and perhaps some combination of assets in cases where the petitioner has not been employed. You guys may also get a co-sponsor.

For the forms, they usually ask applicants to fill out the family name in CAPITAL LETTERS. When I filled out ours though, I just used capital letters on all our names (last, first and middle). The rest, I filled out as proper nouns (when appropriate)

Never leave anything blank; use None or N/A when applicable. If you try typing information and it doesn't fit, you can either:

a) skip it then print it out and handwrite the rest of the information, or

b) prepare a separate document (create one using MS Word) and type your answers that way (make sure on your form it says See Attached); at the top of the extra sheet, have your A#, your name and what the attachment is for (Annex to I-485...or something like that). >>> This is what I did; personally, I had way too much information that didn't fit in the form and I didn't want the officer to try to make out my tired handwriting lol

Make sure all the forms that need to be signed by you and your husband are signed, and the date signed is written, when there is a provision for it.

Don't overlook the supporting documentation either. Make sure you have all the documents you need there to support your application. They don't need originals, photocopies of original documents are what the USCIS needs.

Are you adjusting from a K1 visa or another type of visa? You may want to update your profile and your timeline so other members can help you better.

Thank you for the information rich and lengthy reply at such short notice! Actually, He is pretty much out of school now but is employed full-time and earing 32,000 a year, and no, we have no children yet. :) I don't really think we need a co-sponsor because he's pretty secure in his finances and can definitely support me. However, before he was hired at his current job several months ago, he was unemployed and was a full-time student for the past 3-4 years. Because of this he hasn't filed taxes so we cannot procure any documents of that sort. Should we have his boss write up an affidavit saying he is now currently employed and paying taxes?

The thing is, my visa status is F-4. The drop down menu didn't have that option when i signed up.

Also, where can i get a copy of the timeline so that I can add it to my signature? I am pretty early in the process still, however. Also, I know that previously notarizing documents were required, yes? In the new forms there is no space for notarization, so am I correct to assume that I don't need it?

Also, I don't have an Alien # or a Social Security because of my visa status... So in the boxes that ask for it should I say N/A or None?

You're the spouse of a lawful permanent resident (green card holder)? Then your visa should be F2A (not F4), and that's in the drop down box.

A letter from his employer (on the company letterhead) stating he is in a full-time position, his start date and what he is earning now will be needed, and at least 3 months of pay stubs. How long has he been working for the company? If his pay stubs fro his current job total or go over $18,212, then that's all you need. If he doesn't have a 2009 return, then he needs to provide evidence or a statement saying why he wasn't required to file one.

You have an A#. It is printed in the NOA2 approval notice you received from USCIS. This number is also written by hand on your I-94, but the NOA2 is the better source (sometimes POE officers miss or add extra digits without paying attention).

In your profile is a link to Timeline (found on the left hand side, under My Information). Click on that and start filling in the blanks.

No notarization is required for any documents.

** moved from "Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from Family Based Visas" to "Adjustment of Status from Work, Student, & Tourist Visas" as you are adjusting from a F4 visa and the prior forum is for K1, K2, K3 & K4 **
