Giving a big "L" for L-A-M-E, because none of the regular posters added any PICS for the GPS UNIT in question. So Here it is, and it is PERFECTLY legal to install one under your girlfriend, wife or teenagers car... Step it up, folks. I can't do all the heavy lifting research around here. :whistle: :whistle:

I would think a search warrant would be a reasonable step to take before a tracking device is placed on a private vehicle.

Placing GPS devices on private property without a warrant is pushing a lot of limits. I hope any cop/agent that would dare invade that private property gets what he has coming to him.

It was not his SO, his spouse, his parents... it was FBI, gov't employees, who profiled and tracked him.

(as for the pic, if you had read the article there was a pic of the actual unit... image what you could have done with the time you wasted googling)

if you gave your info (receipt #s, full name, etc) to anyone on VJ under the guise that they would "help" you through the immigration journey with his inside contacts (like his sister at USCIS) ... please contact OLUInquiries@dhs.gov, and go to http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact to report anything suspicious. Contact your congressman and senator's offices as well.

first it'll be criminals to track them... and no one will care because that has nothing to do with "us", right?

It takes a court order to place an ankle-bracelet on a criminal (who is already convicted!) to track his whereabouts. If the analogy is accurate, then it stands to reason that law-enforcement agencies should need a rock-solid warrant before they intrude on others' liberties purely on the basis of suspicion (reasonable & articulable or not).

I read some months back that a professor at (?) the University of Iowa received a Federal grant to study the feasibility of placing GPS devices on ALL vehicles. Perhaps someone here can perform a quicker search for this topic than I could.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

nab, so you are in favor of NOT putting GPS units on mobster, gangster, and other illegal types? If I can put a GPS on my teen driving, or my spouse to keep her safe, too, then why shouldn;t the FBI be able to track the bad guys, who might just invade your home and rape and kill you?? Seems like a forked-tongued argument. Hey, if you are not doing anything illegal, then you have nothing to worry about, so I'm wondering why you want to protect the bad guys.....:whistle::whistle:

My argument stands. If YOU are not engaging in illegal behaviors, then you have nothing to worry about. We NEED a wider net to capture the bad guys who want to rape and kill us. :whistle:

the little terrorist should have slapped it on teh undercarriage of a coast to coast semi tractor and let the FBI chase it all the way to new york. they prolly would have charged him with obstruction of justice, though. would ahve been simpler to throw it out the window crossing the golden gate bridge and see how well it transmits from 200 feet below sea level. "Gee guys, I don't know how that coulda happened."

so if you are not doing anything wrong, would you please mind stepping over here into this little room, strip down, bend over, spread'em and this gentleman here will will just double check that youre innocent of carrying anything concealed... you dont have a problem with that do you sir? you're not doing anything wrong, is that correct? so prove it

What's wrong with having to get a warrant from a judge in order to install those devices ? Who decides who the "bad guys" are ? The government ? :unsure:

Sorry, nab. I can feel a little bit of what you are trying to communicate, but it does just not win us over or resonate with truth. I know that I am an "old man" of 46 years, and my motto has been, "Just obey the law", and I have never been arrested or interrogated.

So the paranoid ideologies of which you reference just don't cut it. Why not let the FBI put GPS tracker units under the bad guys cars. And if by chance they put one under YOUR car, what do YOU really have to worry about...Really? I bet the agents would fall off to sleep monitoring your toyota for 30 days! :whistle::blink::bonk:

you sure you're not hercules incognito? because you both seem to have a habit of seeing boogiemen everywhere... where did you read this phantom post where i said that???

and where in that article did it even state that man was a suspect in any crime, or a "mobster, gangster, or other illegal types" ?

illegal "types" ... would that be illegal aliens? or jaywalkers? how about people who cheat on their taxes... hmmm how about adulterers, that's still 'illegal' some places isnt it... how about the guy down the street with a dog with no license ... how about someone who shows their house trying to get a higher price while it's in contract and tied up with another buyer....

illegal is illegal, right? but the law requires law enforcement to work within the confines of the law... yes, sucks for them sometimes but it protects us ALL.

as for FBI is goign to protect me from a rapist, oh sweetie wake up and smell the coffee... those knight in shinning armor stories are just tales.

you know who will save me from a home intruder or rapist? me, with a .357 or a black talon through his head and heart, depending on where i am and with what firearm i am carrying at the time.
