do you think i should use the K-1 filing service? it's $159 for the filing process, $600 to go through till the end of the interview, if only subscribe for filing, it seems i am still the one that does most of the work, but at the same time, I really want the filie and process to be error-free.

any suggestions? thank you

Is there anything you can think of that makes your case complicated? If there is none, you can count on the members here on VisaJourney to provide you the guidance you need to prepare your own petition and visa application.

Simple answer.... NO. As previously answered, unless there is something that complicates your K-1, it is completely unneccasary. Everything you need to know is here listed under sample forms. Do some reading before you start, get familar with the forms and take it step by step.

I as many thought just as you. It can seem overwhelming at first but if you can fill out a job application, you can do this.

Or you can waste $159.00. All they will do is fill out the forms with the information that you provide them. You verify and sign. You still have to wait, and there is NO WAY they can have it processed faster regardless of what they tell you.

In the meantime, use the search button. Most basic questions have been posted many times before.

Good luck and enjoy the wait(like me currently).

Do some reading around this site. Both the topical forums (K1, CR1, Adjustment of Status) and the regional forums. Then consider the peticulars of your circumstances. If you feel there are no extraordiary issues then VJ is a wonderful do it yourself tool.

If you feel that there are issues with your case, or you really don't want to fill in the forms yourself, then a service or attorney may be helpful.

You're right, you DO do 90% of the work yourself, and it's the hard part. You have to dig out your documents like your passport and birth certificate. You have to remember all of your addresses for the past 5-10 years. You have to get your tax transcripts, You have to ask your parents to spell the name of the town where they were born. These filing services might have their own form where you'll fill out all this information, and then they will just re-format it. If you give them junk information (spell a middle name wrong etc) then they aren't going to be able to check it to ensure it's free from error. Also, I promise you that absolutely NOT ONE PERSON on this planet aside from you and your SO have as much interest in making sure your forms are correct than you do. If you want some one to double check your work or get some fresh eyes on it, why not take your mother or a good friend out to dinner as thanks for going over your packet for you - even at a reasonably nice place it's cheaper than the service, and you might get more care.

The checklist on VJ here has gotten hundreds (thousands?) of people through the process successfully, so no worries about an incomplete list of forms there. We used it all the way through the green card and no problems so far (not on VJ's side at least! :))

Maybe for some people with complicated cases (and I mean complicated - criminal records, domestic violence, multiple immigration attempts (failures), etc) more help is needed, but a visa service isn't it - they need lawyers, good ones.

I would say no. You can probably do it yourself and for the fees mentioned I do not know what kind of service you expect. Though if you feel like you need to pay someone to fill out forms, the visa services that really provide services are usually better than attorneys. Alla does some work for them, translating and consulting with foreign fiancees in their native language...something attorneys never do. She also gets paid more than the fees you mentioned just for doing that part. Personal, skilled service is not cheap, heck, auto mechanics are charging $80-90 per hour 'round here and none of them speak Russian...can you imagine? But you can certainly do it yourself and VJ is the best advice and guidance you will find.

I could guarantee an error free filing but I wouldn't do it for $159. You can do your own, error free. Just read carefully, ask questions here when you need to and when you get done, let us know if you will offer to do it for $159.

VERMONT! I Reject Your Reality...and Substitute My Own!
