thanks guys for your concern but we have decided to get a replacement card. My husband is a perfectionist and wants to take no chance. Since he works in the computer industry and they deal a lot with H1 Visas.. he has to use his green card to show his residency.

As for my sister in law... i think taking her to immigration is an extreme step. she already feels so guilty.

Hopefully the process will go faster.

One more question...

which route is recommended... the e-filing or mailing in the forms.

Also, if i do e-filing how does making a payment work.

thanks

i have read the instructions like 10 times but can't make sense of it..maybe cause i am too overwhelmed.

my husband's biometrics was only done recently in July...

so i file the i-90...do i have to send in all the adjustment of status paperwork? do i pay the full fee?

do i send in the damaged card with the application?

please advise.

A definate yes to your question about paying the full fee.... If u are filing the I-9 nm to replace it or the docs to remove conditions.

I would efile... Its more convenient and yes some what quicker. I believe payment has to be made with a check right a

Before form its submitted. The advantage of efile are ....

-You'll get a receipt number right away.

-You and make an info pass with the print out at the first open date and get the passport stamp necessary for travel.

-they get it immediately, no need to await the mail.

-payment processed immediately

Feeling is one thing.

Convicted is another.

Being Brought up on Charges, IMO, should be enough for HER, to get her out of the house .

IMO, that's a good thing - as she will MOST LIKELY do the same action, again, when the replacement shows up.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

This sounds like a civil and best approach to settling the situation. No need to permanently damage familial relations.

Cards can be replaced. Love, family and friendships cannot. Maybe sis will make some nice dinners for you to recompense.

Being level headed and calm promote harmony and peace. Unnecessary, impulsive confrontations and punitive actions don't.

If it is that damaged, I'd have sil pay for it. Other than that, it's stil a GC, though a bit bent.

For work - Driver License and SSN are sufficient (employer CAN NOT decide which document employee provides as proof of being work authorized). I use DL and SSN at all times.

For naturalization - it's 90 days before the 3 year permanent residency anniversary that he can send in his N-400 - don't know when you visit India every year, but you could time the visit so you go when he gets his US citizenship.

If you plan to go ona yearly basis, I think you'll need a replacement card. Here's why:

a. Let's say you file for you citizenship, you'll need to wait for the approval which will be about 4 to 6 months depending upon the backlog etc and the local ASC that you are affiliated to.

b. Once you take the oath you'll need to get your US passport. (another 2 to 4 weeks)

c. Once you get your US Passport you'll need to get a visa to go to India. (another 2 weeks)

Add all of these to the time line for your travel plans.

Assuming that you are on top of all of these items and the paperwork and everything works for you without any hassles then you need about 6 to 8 months to be travel ready from the date you apply for N-400.

Also what would you do If you have to goto India in case of an emergency?

My advice would be to apply for a replacement GC. However does anyone know the timeline associated with I-90? If this itself is going to take a year ...
