Hi everyone,

I just got married with husband and getting to collect all evidence of marriage. We have all our wedding pictures on the computer, but now the computer gives us a dark screen when we turn it on. when we unplug it, it's normal for like a mn then goes dark. when it's plugged, it wont even clear up for a sec. we've bought new baterry, but still the same.

Does anyone knows what is causing this? please help :crying:

thanks in advance

moved from AOS forum as issue is not immigration related and the post will get more viewing here from people who might be able to help.

Bonjour Licia

First, I am no computer expert but I can tell you that we never sent any photos with our AOS and had no problems. They are of very little use for the AOS process, in fact, none I can think of. (which is why I didn't send any) There really should be nothing in the computer you need for AOS. You need your certified marriage certificate, and some evidence you are livig as husband and wife...joint home, cars, lease, bank accounts, insurance etc.

That said, I am sure you want to keep your wedding photos and maybe one of our good members that knows about computers will be along soon and tell you, but do not worry about your AOS

Bonne Chance!

i don't know to move it to.

You don't need to licia - I've moved it for you. I apologize for not making that more clear. My post meant to say that I have moved your post from where it was in the AOS forum to the Off Topic forum, not to imply you should move it :) . There is still a link to your post left in the AOS forum so you can find it, but if you look at the top of the page above the posts, you will see that it is now posted in the Off Topic forum.

Hopefully you will get some useful answers here. Good luck.

I had a similar problem with one of my laptops - twice. In one case there were drivers that were no longer compatible and we had to update the drivers. In the other case it was the LCD backlight that had stopped working. We had to send the computer back to the manufacturer and they replaced the backlight. You may be able to plug in a separate monitor to see the screen, even if it is a laptop. That is what I did when the LCD backlight went until we found out how to get it fixed (sending it in for repairs). You may be able to pick up an inexpensive monitor at a thrift store to try this out.

I second what Gary said, and some!

The AOS interview was a breeze!! I had a pretty good reason to be nervous too (my fiancee didn't speak a word of English and we didn't have a translator). I thought for sure the interviewer would send us back and tell us to bring a translator and setup a new appointment.

Basically what happened is at first my wife was trying to pretend she could speak English. It become very clear within 1 minute that she didn't understand the questions! The interviewer asked if she spoke English and I told her no, but I am fluent in Spanish (at the time I was conversational in Spanish, but NOWHERE NEAR fluent).

I had to do translating of complex sentences that I had no idea how to translate. I made up 30% of the words. But the interviewing officer didn't really seem to care.

It is not an interrogation (as most people think), it is just a casual friendly conversation. The officer will go through a checklist of things and pass you with flying colors (ask for passport, medical, marriage license, etc.).

I would recommend bringing pictures ( 3 or 4) but they don't have to be from the wedding. It sucks that you may have lost your pictures but it won't stop you from passing the AOS interview...

i suggest you make a knoppix cd (see http://www.knoppix.org ) from another computer,

then boot the laptop with a knoppix cd.

then (after disconnecting any router from the internet )

connect the laptop and another pc running windows to the router,

then from the laptop, now running knoppix from cd -

mount the hard drive (click on the hda0 icon on the desktop)

start samba (under network tools)

then from another computer -

attach to the samba share

then copy the files.

IMO, that's the least painful way to 'get to that hard disk - no screwdrivers or technicians required.

I keep a knoppix cd around for this very purpose.

If this doesn't work, you have hard drive errors, or the screen is really fried.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
