Hello.

So I am looking to get everyone's advice or experience.

I am coming to the states on my K-1 Visa on teh 8th of October. We are then relocating from Virginia to Florida End of October, Early Novemember and we will not be married till we are in Florida (family there).

I don't like the idea of not working for such a long time and I dont really want to do a court house wedding straight up if I dont have to.

Is it worth while filing for the I-765 work permit when I arrive and when approved looking for work (this would mean paying the $340 for this alone and then refiling for it when I do my adjustement of status).

How long does it take to be approved? And will this work out anyhow/am I allowed to do this?

How long have everyone had to wait from AOS to having their work permite and AOS cleared? I was reading its around 90days??

Any feedback would be helpful.

Trying to work out best plan of action.

Thanks.

Ang.

The work permit you can apply for as a K-1 is only valid for the 90 days same as your visa, so by the time you file and get approved it would hardly be worth the waste of money.

When you apply with the AOS application after marriage it will take around 60-70 days to be approved.

Yes, you could apply. The problem is that the work permit is only valid until your I-94 expires, which is 90 days after you enter. Add to that the fact that it's going to take two or three months to get the EAD, and you might not even get it before it's expired. Very few people feel it's worth it to even try.
