Hi again,

We're compiling our K1 visa packet 3 right now (to send in to the Bangkok embassy), and there were a few things that we were unsure of on the DS-230.

1) Section 30 asks her to list all places that she has lived for at least six months since reaching the age of 16. From 2000-2004, my Filipino fiancee lived and worked in Japan. She was there for six months at a time, flew back to the Philippines, then back to Japan to continue working. In total, she worked in four different cities in Japan. The problem is that she doesn't remember the cities she worked in or the specific dates (months/days) that she was in each city. Not only does she not have any records of her work experiences in Japan, but the Filipino embassy doesn't either.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what to write under section 30. Personally, I can't see how this would be relevant, but at the same time, I definitely don't want to lie on the form. What to do?

2) Section 32 asks her what occupation she intends to work in the United States. Eventually she does hope to find a job as an administrative assistant, but will it hurt our chances to write that? Should we tell them that she won't work in the US?

Well, for her it is relevant because she will need a police check for Japan because she as there for longer than 6 months after the age of 16. With this stuff, if it wasn't relevant, they wouldn't ask for it. Have her approximate the dates (even if it is months and years) on the form.

Why would it hurt her chances? I think it shows she intends to be a productive member of US society. You can also write 'undecided' if you like. I wrote 'teacher' and was never asked about it

Good luck

You need to write all the places she has lived since 16 and you only put in years if you read correctly. Gee I am 52 and can remember all the places I have lived since 16. It is important as said in previous post for legal reasons a well as knowing that they have had main steam lifestyle during their adult life. I never even questioned any of this.

If it's not in her immediate memory, she should be able to figure it out perhaps through people she knew there.

The good side to this is that I believe that Japanese police take mediculous records of both local and foreign

residents regarding their names & addresses. She may not be aware of this, but if she was either in a private

house or a hotel the owner of the house or the proprietor of the hotel would normally relay info on all occupants

to the police. A Japanese citizen should be able to confirm this and perhaps if she contacted the Japanese

consulate they may have an address or email to write to that has central police records.

This may not be 100% accurate as it's just what I've gleaned over the years; follow-up and check it out.
