my package is ready to be sent, I only need to make the payment.

Can I send a bank check or do I necessarily need a money order? Also, is one payment for $ 1010 ok or should I make two separate ones, for $ 930 and for $ 80?

I read somewhere that some applicants in the past got their whole package sent back because they made one payment instead of two separate for the same amount: truth or legend?

Finally, is "U.S. Department of Homeland Security" an acceptable indication of the recipient?

Yes, yes, and yes.

I sent one personal check for each AOS package (I had two K2's, as well) in the amount of $1010, made out to "U.S. Department of Homeland Security". Checks were all cashed without any problems.

ok, thank you for your fast answer. I'm ready to send it out. It's still Chicago Lockbox, right? I saw that they changed the address for the new K-1 petitions, but I haven't found anything about AOS. I assume it's still Chicago.

ok, thank you a lot. I think I'll mail with FedEx. Not that I don't trust USPS, but I want my package to be there yesterday :)

I read somewhere that for AOS based on family reasons you cannot use a personal check, but you need a money order or a cashier's check.

This is incorrect. I used a personal check and they cashed it just fine.

ok, thanks. I mean, personal checks are those that you fill in with a pen and sign and then detach from the little booklet, right? sorry but as a foreigner I have some difficulties with the terms...

Right, the ones you get from the bank that have your name and address in the top left corner :)
