I was reviewing the I-131 and saw the section regarding intending travel. We don't have any set plans now, but with the possibility of the GC taking awhile, we'd like to have the AP just in case. Is it ok for us to put unknown? I'm not sure about just picking a date and putting that down because that would be lying, right? Also, we have to attach an explanation to the form, do we just say that we might be traveling to Canada to visit family or for vaca? Is that sufficient? Thanks in advance!

You are correct, putting a random date is lying. Nothing wrong with putting unknown for date of travel, and unknown for length of travel.

However you are incorrect that you need to attach an explanation to the form. If you read the instructions you will see that if you're filing it with AOS (or based on AOS) then sending it WITH AOS or with the NOA1 from AOS is the only "explanation of eligibility" they need.

I put unknown, and I didn't attach an explanation because I filed it with AOS. I was approved without RFE.

I put down 'to be determined' and wrote an explanation that I have an elderly parent and wish to be sure I could travel to visit in case of an emergency without having to lose time applying if an emergency actually occurs. It was probably not required, as per Vanessa & Tony's post, however, I really wanted to make sure I got the AP - for exactly that reason.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
