Well preseason starts this Thursday and we need a football thread.

I came across this article this weekend and it put a smile on my face. I did a lot of growing up in the Seattle area and when the Seahawks went to the superbowl I was a happy camper. Well until the refs ruined it for me. It was nice of Leavy to own up to his mistakes.

Seahawks commend official who admits mistakes in Super Bowl XL

By Percy Allen

Seattle Times staff reporter

Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck appeals a call for a personal foul during the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XL when the Seahawks fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Open practice at Husky Stadium

Sunday's practice will be held at Husky Stadium and will be open to the public starting at 1:30 p.m. Parking is available at various surface lots surrounding the stadium.

Many Seahawks commended NFL referee Bill Leavy, who admitted he made officiating mistakes that impacted Seattle's 21-10 defeat in Super Bowl XL.

"I think all of the officials we have in the NFL are stand-up guys, and Leavy is no different," quarterback Matt Hasselbeck said. "It's a game. It's not a perfect science. There's a lot of human involvement there.

"I played some games that I remember because I felt like I did a good job and I played some games where I had some regrets. That goes for any sport, any player. I'm sure coaching is no different, and in that same way I'm sure officiating is the same thing."

Leavy worked Seahawks training-camp practices this week with an officiating crew. He also talked to the team about the rule changes for the upcoming season.

Before the rules meeting, Leavy spoke to the Seahawks about his Super Bowl officiating gaffes.

"I'll go to my grave wishing that I'd been better," Leavy told Seattle-area media Friday. "I know that I did my best at that time, but it wasn't good enough."

Cornerback Marcus Trufant wasn't expecting an apology from Leavy.

"It was kind of a shock," Trufant said. "You're sitting there and you really don't know refs by faces and stuff like that. If he wouldn't have said anything, I wouldn't have known it was him.

"You kind of appreciate the honesty. He stepped up to the plate. At the end of the day, you can't be perfect. You strive for perfection, but people make mistakes, and he made a mistake."

Nine current Seahawks were on the roster when Seattle played the Steelers in the Super Bowl: Sean Locklear, Ray Willis, Chris Spencer, Lofa Tatupu, Leroy Hill, Craig Terrill, Jordan Babineaux, Trufant and Hasselbeck.

Babineaux said if Leavy wanted closure, then he made a mistake to acknowledge his mistakes 4 ½ years later.

"To his credit he came out and did admit his faults, but it doesn't make me feel any better," Babineaux said. "You can't turn back the hands of time.

"I don't even wear my NFC championship ring. I appreciate it and I think we had a memorable season for the franchise, but I don't wear it because in my mind that season didn't end the way it was supposed to."

Hall of Fame game was pretty cool last night. I really enjoyed watching Football again. Real football, not crybaby actors running around for three hours.

I didnt get to watch the game but I did see Jerry Rice and Emmit Smiths introduction into the Hall of Fame. It was good. I went to Jerry Rices first game as a Seahawk and even though he was at the end of his career you would of thought that he was at the top of his game by the way the crowd reacted when he came on the field. By far the best WR ever.

I have faith in Coach Whisenhunt.

He is a great coach but not a miracle worker. I think they need to bring in Anderson if they want to see some results. Anderson is a good quarterback but its hard to shine when your in Cleveland.

By far the best WR ever.

It was really cool to see him and Emmit go in together.

I like watching pro football but I love watching college games.

I just can't get into college games for some reason. I live in Cincinnati about a five minute walk from UC (BIG EAST CHAMPS!) but even they don't really do it for me. I like the games, I'll still watch if it's on, but I find myself watching movies on Saturday instead.

I think the NFL guys are just so dang good I watch college and they don't impress me. I'd rather watch PeeWee games. Now that's a good way to spend a Saturday! For the record, in person, nothing beats Friday Night Lights! NFL is actually kind of bogus in person. I do like going to the college games more than NFL.

Allright, I guess for me -

Thursday night - NFL on TV

Friday night - Local HS at the field

Saturday - Go to PeeWee in the morning, college in the evening

Sunday - NFL on TV

Monday - Do we even have to ask?
