Yea Man! It's a system gone way out into left field..

It's ashame that we cant freely choose to marry who we please just because of where they live.. Since I travel internationally with my job, I had the good fortune of meeting this wonderful person.. Man I had no idea what I was fixing to put myself through..

Thanks again for your help...

Where in Texas are you?

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

No problem. I know it's a pain. People are going on about illegal immigration. If they actually knew how difficult it was to do it legally, they would understand why people swim rivers etc. In the EU this process takes a month, not a year.

People "swim rivers" because they have no route to immigrate legally, or would have to wait many many years for a visa to become available. Life as an illegal immigrant is usually more difficult than the actual immigration process, and most illegal immigrants would happily go through the process if they were eligible.

In spite of how difficult the immigration process seems to be in the US, it remains the top immigration destination in the world by a wide margin, having taken in more than 20% of all immigrants in the world, more than 3X as many as number two Russia.

I was being sarcastic. There is no good reason it should take 1 year to get an immigrant visa for your wife with the technology available today. The legal immigration route needs fixing.

All, Thank you for your reply.

Not sure if I feel more comfortable.. My tax debt is around 74K, I make 84K annually.

I really have no co-sponser option.

Colombian Embassy may be diferent.. Any feedback specific to this embassy would be helpfull...

I was hoping someone would say something like,

" if you're in a payment plan, and currently in good standing, I should be ok..."

This tax debt will take years for me to clear up. I would be absolutely heartbroken if I findout I cant get my fiancee here...

You don't say if there is a tax lien. It makes a difference. No lien, no problem usually but either way, I would show evidence of the payment plan and current status.

Hello Pushbrk, thanks for your reply, I do have a lien for 53,478 showing on my credit reports..

It is the lien, not the debt that caused the problem for Daboyz, so be sure to include evidence of the agreement and it's current status with any affidavit of support. I doubt it will be an issue with the I-134 but it may well be with the later I-864.
